Thought I would start a new thread. What smells do you notice whilst out scootering? Here are a few of mine:-

1. Rain immediately before or after a shower or downpour
2. Pine trees
3. Roasting coffee beans coming from a shop in my home town of Lancaster (UK), the smell drifting down the street on roast day was amazing
4. The warm smell of my scooter inside my garage after being out for a long ride

The sea when you're getting close to the coast

Honeysuckle when it fills the air in the summer

I also quite like following old Lammys burning 2-stroke

1. Orange blossoms in season when riding with Lostboater around the groves of South Florida.
2. Marijuana smoke from open windows of cars ahead of me when riding slowly or at stops.

What Bill said - orange blossoms. I'm close enough that I don't have to wait for him or Ken to show up.

The smell of malted grain from the local distillery.
The smell of fresh baked bread.
The smell of new mown grass.

Yeah. Inspires bad jokes about "dairy aire." Worse these days with CAFOs.

We have a commercial bakery on my commute....occasionally get blasted by the sickly sweet smell.

Otherwise, freshly mown lawns, freshly cut hay, lilacs, ozone after a rainstorm....

I've lost most of my sense of smell but, along with feeling each subtle change in temperatures, this remains one of my favorite riding perks.

Sweet wheat fields in June and early July.
Cherry blossoms.
Cottonwood trees and water in late summer.
Pine.
Rotting leaves in fall.
Fresh marijuana from the massive, legal grow-op out by the airport.

Starting sometimes in late March but generally it's April-May:
Blooming Jasmine.

Love to HATE the smell of Burgers cooking at a stop just after a bridge on my commute home.

The "fresh" scent of trees and the city after a rain.

Only experienced it once but the smell of the fields as they were cutting/harvesting lettuce in the early morning very near the Central California Coast. It's an aroma that has stuck with me for several years now.

Closer to home there's the smell from the massive brewery when they are offloading hops by the train car load. The aroma from a local bbq/steakhouse in mid- afternoon when most of the days' bbq'ing is done.

What I don't miss is the stench from the GIANT duck farm that used to be inches from the freeway on my way to and from work. You could avoid it in the car by rolling up the windows but no such relief while on two wheels.

Jacaranda blossoms in Spring.
Fields of canola in flower.
Sea spray on coastal rides.

Mostly the clean, fresh smell after those short summer afternoon thundershowers...

My favorite riding experience of them all - go for a ride on a back road in the countryside early on a summer morning. You will go through little dips in the road where you pass small creeks (called criks around here ). Cool air remains in those hollows and they are rich with the smell of water and vegetation. Doesn't get much better than that!

A tortuous thread!
I lost 90% of my sense of smell three years ago.
Unless itís under my nose, I miss it.
And if I do smell something, it usually doesnít smell correct to the item.

I did enjoy orange blossoms, BBQ or steakhouses, baked goods!

Nose on the Road
As already related, the countryside smell of Dairy/Pig/Turkey Farms is definitely memorable. I actually enjoy the damp smell of the forest on a narrow tree covered lane.

Also, it is not a complete country ride with out an occasional skunk.

Not actually something I smelled, but riding through WVA and VA on the way to AV last summer, I hit a stretch where I started sneezing incessantly...a real treat in a FF At one point we headed north and in a short time it quit entirely.

Weird.

No pleasure, believe me.

The smell of the Indian River here, some like it, some donít. That and the two stroke smell at stoplights is my favorite.

Freshly cut grass
Roasting cloves (in the industrial estate)
Cinnamon

I notice no one has the smell of rain as their favourite

The smell is nice, but with rain I like the sound, as it tends to drown out everything else.
