So I purchased my 2019 500hpe Sport on Monday. Got a pretty good deal on it because I paid cash. Asked the dealer how long it would take to get here. I have it in my warehouse is what he said. Got the 50 liter Piaggio top case for it and out the door paid $9600.00 for it. Now I need the snow to melt and get some warm temps in order to pick it up. Hoping after February 5th, the day I pick up my plate, it is a little warmer and I can bring it home. Too bad they don't have a certified LeoVince for it yet...at least not in Germany because they want papers for every mod that is not factory. Supposed to be certified in the coming months. Could have gotten and Akro muffler but for 1095 Euro, I wasn't willing to spend that kind of cash. The dealer was going to give it to for 950 Euro installed, but I can wait. I purchased the Grau past Lucido color since I didn't want to deal with matt paint in terms of cleaning and waxing. Saw the color in the showroom on a 350 he had in there, and after about 15 minutes, it grew on me so I took it in terms of that color. Really sharp color. Asked about the advanced model and that is due out in the middle of the year he said. He said for the extra money for reverse, and the fact is becomes a handful when the suspension lock is on with little ruts in the street, cobblestone, etc, he didn't recommend and I did not want to wait any longer than I had to in order to start riding again. Looking forward to riding again...woohoo.

To be honest, that doesn't sound too bad. 11k in dollar. To go from an old 400ie to the new 500hpe, I am looking at a little over 12 to 14hp increase. Ready for spring.

Do you mean that the standard model does not have tilt lock capability?

No. The standard model has tilt lock just like always. The standard model does not have reverse. The dealer said the reverse is a handful to use with the tilt lock engaged. I'm pretty sure the tilt lock has to be engaged to use reverse. Not sure of that though. I can tell you these things can be a bitch while the tilt lock is engaged hitting bumps, cracks in the road, etc. I know because I frequently roll down my driveway and on down the road aways with the front end locked. I live on a hill so that is possible.

Yeah...the advance model does have reverse. how effective it is, really hard to say. Is it going to be worth the extra cost...in my honest opinion, probably not. being able to move it around with the front locked is fine with me.

Now this could be the answer to my question, if this is how the reverse functions. I sure agree that rolling forward on a slope with the tilt-lock set can be an issue. More than one person has dropped their MP3 doing that.

I pick up my plate on Tuesday and weather permitting, maybe Saturday I pick up from the dealer? Weather can't seem to make up its mind here in Germany. Any weather app I look at, they all seem to be wrong.

Picked up with 00000km on it. Had a little stress at the dealer but got three bottles of champagne and major discount on the first service.

Let me just say, going from a 400 to a 500 and +15hp and wow. The sports dampers and springs are much harder front and rear versus stock aka business. pick-up is good and the stock muffler does not sound too bad...for stock. The seat seams to be a bit higher, as i can only put one leg down on either side. hmmm. Once i can get a good ride in, i will definitely post more info and thoughts.

I do have to say, the new windscreen does a good job at diverting air around the handgrips in colder weather. You don't feel the wind near as much on your hands as the old windscreen design. huge plus. Was thinking of the original Piaggio heated grips, but I think to be honest, you can skip those.

So after a little more riding, the new 500hpe is much more relaxed in terms of how much throttle input is needed. Probably has to do with the fact that i am 15+ more horsepower more than my old 400. Seat seems to be a bit firmer, which seems to be ok with me. I am not very keen on the electronic throttle though. Not near as easy to modulate as lower speeds...under 30km/h. Had a chance to ride at night and the headlight is a huge improvement over the older models. Much brighter and the road is a lot more lit up, so a big plus there. Hated riding my old 400 in the dark, even with better quality bulbs installed. Sylvania Nightbreakers. Passing power is great and no need to think about when I want to pass....just do it. The factory top case is a bit smaller in terms of height, so my full face does not fit as easily. Under the seat, no problem. Wish I could dim the gauge cluster as it is a bit bright at night, but the blue color is nice. Don't care for the mode button as all the functions are not integrated into it like the older model but not a huge deal I guess. The harder suspension is nice as you have a much better feel for what the bike is doing and some of the weird undulations that I used to feel are gone. Makes for much more confident riding. A bit taller in terms of I can't put both feet down...30 in inseam but I haven't changed the height setting on the rear coilover dampers either. Overall impressions are, I love all the changes that Piaggio made. Would I put Dr. Pulley weights? At this time, no. There is power readily available all the time which is a huge plus but again, 15+ HP over the 400. Can't wait to do a long ride, over 100km or more in one ride to see if my impressions change about what I just stated. Haven't had my wife on it yet, so I am not sure of my 2 up impression, but had her a time or two on the 400 and there were moments you definitely wanted more power. If you are considering an upgrade to a new model, you won't be disappointed in my honest opinion. Still haven't reached the 500km break-in point yet, so I have yet to really romp on it yet. Still keeping to back road driving, which I prefer, in order to keep the revs at different points in the rev range versus a constant fixed rev.
