I found an inexpensive et3 cylinder (without head) kit online. Any advice on this as a bolt /rejet and go or weather I would have to have have other mods? can I use my sport 100 head? will my cylinder cowl fit?
-Thanks

you'll need new barrel studs (and associated hardware), the head may or may not need to be reprofiled, shroud. throw in the associated gaskets, and upjet the carb accordingly-- preferably to match whatever new exhaust you'll be running.
(i can't remember 100% on the studs and shroud, i did a 90 and 100 back to back so my mind is a bit muddled at the moment, when i get out to the garage tomorrow or wed. i can have look at my notes for ya) -g |

For your effort probably better off with DR 130 or Polini 130 if you can spare the extra $. DR is like a better breathing et3, but most will steer you to the Polini. I run the DR and like it, good bargain kit IMO.

now that i've had a moment to think about it... just get a DR if you're looking to be zoom zoom on a budget. you can't even get a next over piston and a bore job for that price.
keep it mellow and it'll play nice with a stock carb and one of those noisemaker kidney style pipes. it's cheap as chips and comes with a head already so you're in like flynn. you'll still need the shroud and hardware to connect it up though. like john said, most will try and steer you toward the polini-- which if you had dough to drop i'd be all about spending your money-- but it's a hundy more and that's money that could go toward other more necessary upgrades. granted, the polini is a kit you can grow with, but we are in the here and now. not two years and thousands of dollars later kinda deal. anyway. you've got A LOT going for you here. 100 sport is 12V, you can easily convert it to electronic ignition, you can easily simplify the electronics/harness, those cases are a solid building block for pretty much anything that you'd like to run. what you've got against you though is that it's a 3sp. and that ssssuuuuccccckkkkkkssssss that gap between 2nd and 3rd will be your downfall. personally, i'd try and find the scratch to make it 4spd before kitting it up. -g |

Thanks for the great advice. I guess looking for a 4 spd transmission is the next step ( probably very difficult to find). Maybe German ebay?

SIP sell a kit with loose gears, tree, and cruciform as well. But in reality I strongly prefer the DRT short 4th tree to fix the 3-4 gap in the stock box. If you go this route I can help you find which one I ordered, it shortened 4th up but works with a stock loose gear. Well worth the effort.

Maybe German ebay? truthfully though, if your driveshaft/axle isn't trashed (like the runs aren't all chipped up and the gear areas scored and bearing rides and splines look okay then you just keep that. get a new cross, four gears and tree. matt pointed out that mercato sells the gears, and you're half way there. personally, i'd go stock gears with a short 4th tree from DRT as john suggested. but it's not the end of the world if you don't. on the primary, you can keep the 100 primary if you're staying in town. if you expect to do any riding over 50/55 swap it for a stock VMA primary. for me though, a DR with 4spd and that 100 primary on a stock carb with a noisemaker pipe is stupid fun in the city. -g |

http://www.scootermercato.com/Scooter-Parts/Clutch-Baskets-Back-Plates-and-Drive-Gears/110670 Do you mean a 24/61 specifically? Is that stock V100 ? |

V90/100 is 22/63 which is a little low unless you like to keep the rpms high in a light to light drag race but the Primavera/et3 ratio is a little better for a daily rider with higher sustained speeds.

Matt - that's getting close to $300 going from 3 to 4 speed. And I notice that you no longer have the 10% discount for orders over $200. Fair enough, you gotta make a buck to keep the doors open and keep Dave in BINGO money...
but how about a special 'bundle' deal on all 4 items for NSM ppl? (Mike Wolfe impression) Mattgyver wrote: V90/100 is 22/63 which is a little low unless you like to keep the rpms high in a light to light drag race but the Primavera/et3 ratio is a little better for a daily rider with higher sustained speeds. I far and away prefer a tuned 125 motor w/ the 90/100 set. I am going thru the gears pretty quick, wound out in no time and 4th is still usable at fairly low speeds. On my stock Primavera except 3 port cylinder, PHBL24 & nice Simonini pipe, the gap from 3 to 4 was still a problem and it ran fine in 4th, just no guts. That all goes away with the shorter 90/100 primaries. And 60mph tops drops to 50-55mph, but I get there a hell of a lot quicker. If I lived in the city or hill country, I'd go 90/100. In flat country I'd go tall VMA primaries. In the suburbs, you decide.

damm Terry why you got to beat up on the little man.
Yes we did away with the volume discounts. But I also modified most of prices to every day low price. On the 4 parts Matt listed 134902. 134903-6, 112377 and 110670 our pricing is pretty competitive. Mercato is at 279.95 and the other two national retailers are 397 and 456. SIP is 246 before shipping. Our "to your door" price is probably within 5 bucks of SIP. Literally David vs Goliath. Giving another 10% would make it tough to keep the doors open. PS I dont play BINGO. Hope all is well with you. Dave

Gee whiz, Dave, I would never beat on you. You are the only supplier that I steer ppl to and for a good reason. I do miss that discount but you are still my favorite shop and yes, your prices are still competitive, the flat rate shipping is always appreciated and the personal service is priceless. I want you to do whatever is necessary to keep the doors open & food on the table! But you can't blame a guy for trying.
And yeah, BINGO is overrated. |

In the suburbs, you decide. gearing with a standard 4spd and V90/100 sport with a stock carb will do 50ish and be okay. add a bigger carb and pipe and take advantage of a kit that revs freely and you're on the jam easy money and you don't have that massive gap. 125 primary would be chill but kinda doggy in town but if you're building a canyon bruiser 55/60ish bike that needs some roll then you'd wanna go here but also add that short 4th tree to eliminate dat gap. but like vodoo said, it's all about how you're going to use it. the benefit of the smallie is that you have your choice of gearing, carb and kit. mild to wild you can tailor it to precisely the type of riding you want to do. all of the primaries, carbs, exhausts and kits exist to do exactly what you want. -g |

FYI The short 4th is now being done as a loose gear that works with the stock tree. Also there are a number of 3 speed trees available now that presumably work with the stock loose gears, so it's just a tree and 2nd/3rd gap, which is terrible, gets cured. I'm sure Mercado could hook you up but you'd have to wait a bit for him to bring the part in.
