So I found this slice in my front tire today before riding out. The tire is a Heidenou K-61 with about 11,000 miles on it, but it seems to have plenty of rubber left on it. Maybe just too old? It's probably 6 years old? What would you do? I'm guessing I need to replace it?

Replace it ASAP. Six years is past the recommended tire life of five years. 11K miles on it, it doesn't owe you a thing. Say bye bye.

Yes. It's trying to tell you something. Get rid of it. The micro cracks just below the slice says to me 'old age'.

Yea-I hear ya. Really more of a rhetorical question. Bike has been sitting over the cold months and first chance to enjoy the warmer weather, I inspected both tires and took a look at the hoses. Found that slice in the front tire and well... gonna order a new one. Hope everyone takes the time to take a long look over the bike before any longer rides. Spring is a good time to check that bike over REALLY well.

Good reminder. Looks plenty unsafe to ride on to me.

2019 is a tire year for me.....GTS needs a set, replacements ready and waiting, BV's tires look good but still original. Probably wait until riding season is mostly over to tackle those. I don't want to have to share any photos like that one!

Looks bad. Most only get about 10K on front and 6-7K on back. I was able to save myself about $100 by removing the wheels myself and have a local shop (not a dealer) mount and balance the tires and I reinstalled the wheels (you need a torque wrench to do it right). They had better pricing than online for the tires. It was nice to support a local biz too.

That is not a slice, it is a crack from the tire starting to fail.

Looks like a blow-out waiting to happen. Don't ride it, except maybe a short hop at slow speed to the shop to get it changed.

No, the back tire was replaced late last year just before the cold hit here and has just a couple hundred miles on it. I plan on taking the wheel off myself and taking the rim and new tire to be mounted and balanced at a local shop today or tomorrow. PLEASE check out all your rubber components after storing the bike for the Winter months! Ya never know what dangers you might find.

Temperatures in Charlotte were in the mid-seventies just last week, but reality returned as a cold front dipped through a couple days ago. I got the scooter riding itch during that warmer weather and found the slit in my tire before going out. Luckily, my wife allowed me to ride her bike so I could scratch that itch!
