Hi all,

I hope someone might be able to point me in the right direction here. When I start my MP# i have no issue but the revs hover between 1700-2000 then drop and cuts out. I can give it some throttle and it revs up but thats intermittently and with not move or jerks in movement. seems to happen every couple of months and when I leave it for a few days its right as rain. I have changed the oil and replaced the air filter. Was think the Carb but I have no idea.

Cheer guys

Sounds like you have intermittent problem in you`re Fuel system. Could be you are getting air somewhere in the lines. I would take it to a Workshop/Dealership and have it checked out. Wish you luck with that.

the 250 had a recall on its fuel pump. worth taking a look to see if your was done. if not you can easy get a pump off ebay and do it yourself. when mine packed up it would just die on me and wouldn't restart but if left for some time would start again but always died within a few minutes. I now change the pump on any 250 I have owned just to be sure.

Great thanks for that reply, I never new about the recall and I doubt that mine had been replaced. Do you know of any guides to replace it? not that savvy with this sort of thing, not even sure where its located!

lol its located next to your feet in the fuel tank.its a little tricky to do yourself but not impossible just needs a lot of plastic panels taken off. if your in the uk just google fuel pump piaggio recall and you should be able to see if your chassis number is the one that is effected. I booked a 250 in just last year but got fed up being told bullshyt from dealer when it will be ready and took it back off them and did it meself. pump was like 23 off ebay.

I didn't know that there was a recall on the 250s because of the fuel pump, but it sounds like it could definitely be your problem!

I am more inclined to be in agreement with you guys on this, i stopped into my local scoot repair place and he is adamant that its a computer issue, claims that it would not even start if its a fuel pump issue. I have already spent a small fortune on other bits and dont really want a hefty bill coming my way. Strange that it seems to happen every couple of weeks then if I leave it for a few days its back to normal.

I am guessing I have to take the fuel tank off to get access to the pump?

The engine in the MP3 250 is fuel injected. Sometimes the injector needs to be cleaned (or replaced) but I would start with the tip about the fuel pump recall. A Piaggio dealer can check for you to see if the recall/advisory was already done.

BTW: always good to list your location in your profile (it can be as general or specific as you prefer) - that helps others give you advise such as where to check about recalls, where to obtain parts, etc.

Thanks for the advice, I know where the fuel injector is so I will give that a clean first. Yeah sorry I am in the USA Tampa Bay area. We do have a Piaggio dealer here and have been to them before

So after inspection of the fuel injector I noticed that the actual connector prongs had snapped so i think this is gotta be the issue, had a look around on ebay and there are some listed but almost 5 weeks to deliver, is there an alternative? maybe another model scooter would work?

on a 250 you should be able to use the vespa gts250 or 300 injector. look up your part number in AF1 racing website and use that number to search as well. Also Aprilia sport city 250 is the same base engine And don't forget about the Piaggio BV 250 as well

If you want an injector now, we've got them. But it sounds more like either an immobilizer issue or something with the tilt-lock, if it's revving to 2K rpms and then cutting off.

I had the same problem a few years ago and it turned out to be the Injecter, so please make sure before paying hundreds of Dollars for parts that probably don"t need!!

If it's still under recall, why should he replace it himself when he can get it done for free???

The tech doesn't have a clue about this recall then, because it is a HEAT issue and works fine once the motor cools down.So he would be wrong that it works or doesn't if it is a fuel pump.

And you may have spent all that money because this guy thinks he know everything and doesn't test or check for recalls.

Okay so my new fuel injector arrived, After installing the big work great again, no issues with the pump. Now i just have 2 other issues appear.
1) the fan comes on pretty much as soon as I start riding it. I checked the heat indicator on the dash and it appears to be getting a little warm, this might be due to living in Florida I dont know.
2) the rear brake seems to lock on, I have drained the brake fluid and filed up again, do you think this could be a bad caliper?
