While lubricating my new mp3 500 hpe before its first running in service.
There appears to be a silver metal guard maybe protecting the bearings from the elements.

Please tell me you didn't use White Lythium Grease on the bearings. Should be using wheel bearing grease.

No I think what you can see is the original that is a white calcium grease.
I have used lithium ep2 for the summer temperatures and will go to a molly for the winter but with these guards the molly might not fall out now while its warm !

yes they updated the bearing covers and everything on each leg , you can compare the 2 in the parts IPB thru af1 racing.

This shows Piaggio is trying to prevent the notch.

This is great news. I hope it goes better than the last mp3 I had for 3 years it needed bearings every 18 months or 15 thousand miles.

whomever installed the new ones in your old scoot did not set them up properly then. I still have my original ones in and no issues for 40k miles. I did grease them very early on and checked the proper torque and adjusted them. oh mines is a 2008 BTW.

I have never had the Notch myself, but I grease the hell out of my two MP3's...
I give it a few pumps when I have them up on the rack.

Yes I just wish that I had greased mine from the start.
We will see how it goes this time, although if they have redesigned the front-end hopefully they will last a lot longer anyway.

Looking at the 4 black plugs in the picture.
I guess they didn't put the metal braces back?

They came on my 2009 MP3/250, and 2016 MP3/500 Sport.
But some time in 2016 they stop putting them on as I have friends with 2016's without them.

If I had a New Bike, and it didn't have them.
I would put some on, you can find them on ebay often pretty cheap.
Unless, there is a benefit to not have them????
Most junk sellers don't know what they are.
