steering bearings on new HPE mp3

While lubricating my new mp3 500 hpe before its first running in service.
There appears to be a silver metal guard maybe protecting the bearings from the elements.

Please tell me you didn't use White Lythium Grease on the bearings. Should be using wheel bearing grease.

No I think what you can see is the original that is a white calcium grease.
I have used lithium ep2 for the summer temperatures and will go to a molly for the winter but with these guards the molly might not fall out now while its warm !

yes they updated the bearing covers and everything on each leg , you can compare the 2 in the parts IPB thru af1 racing.

This shows Piaggio is trying to prevent the notch.

whomever installed the new ones in your old scoot did not set them up properly then. I still have my original ones in and no issues for 40k miles. I did grease them very early on and checked the proper torque and adjusted them. oh mines is a 2008 BTW.

Yes I just wish that I had greased mine from the start.
We will see how it goes this time, although if they have redesigned the front-end hopefully they will last a lot longer anyway.

They came on my 2009 MP3/250, and 2016 MP3/500 Sport.
But some time in 2016 they stop putting them on as I have friends with 2016's without them.

If I had a New Bike, and it didn't have them.
I would put some on, you can find them on ebay often pretty cheap.
Unless, there is a benefit to not have them????
Most junk sellers don't know what they are.
