Rosanna Arquette is a good reference.

For me it depends on where I'm going.
Interstate 75 MPH, full gear.
Around the city, planned max 55, skip the armored pants.
Around the neighborhood, planned max 40, skip the boots.

Always, for me:
Gloves, jacket, helmet.

Where do you go for good, not arm and leg expensive kevlar jeans? Or just gear in general? So much is really expensive; makes it hard to buy full gear stuff. Suggestions?

+2 though I'm guilty of not owning armoured pants. I haven't found a pair I like the fit on but do plan on getting a pair eventually.

Ha! I agree though do have one small issue with that. Also I'm not trying to stir up shit but my concern is this. In a real accident where no one is truly at fault and a rider is grievously injured because they were wearing no more than say shirts and sneakers . Anyone with some humanity in them will feel absolute remorse for this and if something as simple as a helmet would prevent this? I'm not saying gear up all the time but shorts and a t-shirt? Some common sense needs to come in to play here Darwin rule and all.

This looks OK for the neighborhood.
Caveat: Most accidents happen near home so......
Add skateboard/in-line skating elbow and knee pads if you feel vulnerable.

By the way, if you really hate your Aerostich one-piece, let me know and I'll send you my address. I'll happily pay shipping if it looks like the size is right, and from the picture, well, looks close enough to ask...

There again, my neighbour of 10 years ago died from coming off his bike in town at just 20 mph! He was just 49 years of age. He didn't put his armoured trousers on and as a result busted his knee. He got an infection and died of sepsis! They couldn't find an antibiotic that would work! Yeah, I know, it kinda spoils the shorts and tee shirt thing.

I can go faster than 25 MPH on a bike, so full gear for a bike?? Doesn't sound very comfortable to me.

I wear full gear, including armored pants. I have mesh gear for the warmer season.

I have had one bad crash. 30 mph. A distracted driver left-turned into me. The police officer at the scene and my insurance company said the driver was 100 percent at fault. There was nothing I could have done.

Every place that had armor took a hard hit with deep bruising. I'm sure that without it I would have had busted knees, elbows, shoulders. Not sure about my head, but I do believe I was concussed. My one serious injury was a crushed foot at the point of impact. I'm not sure anything would have made a difference with this one.

Put all the injuries together, and I'm not sure they would have been survivable.

This is just my story. I'm not going to tell anyone else what to wear or how to ride.

BTW, It's gotten very difficult to find armored mesh overpants any more.

Yes, riding pants I find to a be real PITA to find what I want. I have a long ride coming up, 6 hours of freeway and I would like a pair. I just can't find anything I like. Jackets , gloves, helmets etc are all so easy to find.
