I am new to the scooter world. I have an old vespa that we are very slowly restoring and a newer ET2 that I commute with in my very small town. What I really want is an MP3 for longer, safer trips. With my somewhat advanced age I would feel better on three wheels. What do you feel are key points to bring up when looking at purchasing? I am currently looking at a 2008 250 with under 6000 miles. Any advice would be very appreciated. TIA
MP3's are heavy but are manageable. They do not really behave as a typical 3 wheeler would. So don't count on the 3 wheels to help with maneuverability especially at slow speeds. I think the 250 is way under powered for such a heavy machine. A 300 or preferably a 400 would be the smallest motor I would go with.
also worth mentioning that going 2 up or adding a topbox on an mp3 does not effect the way the scooter handles. I have had plenty of scooters that felt dangerous with these added.
the 250 is great for short blasts around your locals , 300 again is great local wise and feels slightly less laboured on a run. the 400 is the pick of the bunch for a mix of long distance and locals. 500 is imo the least favoured as I get more mpg out of my car.
If you are not short legged, and fast at getting both feet down when stopping, you will probably be OK on any mp3. Don't worry about your age, you will not be the oldest here to enjoy riding an mp3....
