Hello All !

Question . . looking to put new wheels and rims on my '90. I'm looking around and I found some I like on SIP and Scooter West. What I'm replacing is 3.00 - 10 wheels (stock I assume) I would love to swap a pair of these rims / tubeless tires on the bike (see pictures) but it looks like I need 5 star hubs to make these rims work ?! Can I assume that (like most other things) the '90 does not allow for star hubs ?! and that these rims are a NO GO !

Please let me know if anyone else has put these rims on a '90 without stupid crazy retro fit add ons.

Thanks as always for the knowledge base and help !!

many of the early bikes had 9" wheels - are you on 9's?

No - think I’m 10’s !? Here’s a pic of my older wheels that I pulled off scooter. See picture.

you have 10's but the older style hubs. You can convert your brake hubs front/rear with some work but probably not worth it unless you must have this....

Trying to figure out your current rim situation. If you have 3.00-10 tires, then you have 2.10-10 rims. Question is, what hub do you have?

Older small frames had the 4 lug hubs. Newer had the 5 lug hubs.

The picture you posted also shows a 3.50-10 tire. This tire will fit the front no problem. However, a 3.50-10 tire in the rear will often rub on the clutch cover and drag like the brakes are engaged.

Hope this makes sense.

yeah poidog is right - some 3.5x10 rub the clutch cover. tire size can get dicey on the rear. I've run a 90/90 back there because I had a pretty fresh pair laying about (actually it's what's on the bike now).

I did see those “other” rims from SIP - and they’re my back up if getting my first choice to fit is a nightmare and involves another 250.00 worth of parts. These older rims fit fine & did not rub or make contact with hubs or body.

So it’s possible to get my first choice to work but it means new front and rear brake hub changes !? Its been done .. but its expensive !? I have tuned this ‘90 with upgraded DR 130 and bigger carb .. is a brake hub / upgrade really necessary .. with the increase in speed !? (look’n for an excuse to upgrade based on safety .. but it seems like a thin defense) Let me know .. THX

Upgrading to five bolt wheels is not too hard and gives you the advantage of bigger brakes. Made a noticeable difference to me. I had a PK fork w/ 5 bolt wheel, but swapped the hub and brakes on the motor for a 5 bolt. It was easy. For the front, you'd have to swap the axle, but that's usually fairly easy too.
