Anyway back to China. If I want another well built, cheap reliable bike I'd wouldn't think twice about buying a Benelli or a Sinnis in the future.

I'm not sure about the adage of "They are cheap for a reason" applies any more so don't think about having to justify buying one to your friends and give one a go.

I believe Kymco is a Taiwanese company, not Korean.

Yes, it's true...generalizing it could be said that it is an Asian company ... it is more global.

Yes, based out of Taiwan. I believe they are an offshoot of Honda and split away some time ago.

I think we all agree quality products can come out of China. The thing is labour is relatively cheap and labour laws are let's face it not exactly where they need to be. Pollution is also a big problem as laws there are also not where they need to be and with all the manufacturing this creates a problem.

Cheap labour and weak protection for the worker and environment means a LOT of companies make products there. If you want to make a cheap knock-off or crappy electronics/apparel etc odds are China will be where it is made. If you want to make a higher end product that is labour intensive China will also probably be where you will make it. I remember reading a breakdown on how much Apple products would cost in NA and the difference was significant. China is not the only country with cheap labour and weak protection for the worker so I'm not singling them out on that count. A lot of companies also choose China as it has the infrastructure, talent pool and masses of workers. As consumers let's face it we're cheap and want to pay as little as possible for the things we buy.

As far as vehicles go and some other products made in places like Italy, Germany, the US much of the labour is also done by workers that will work long hours, take few breaks and never complain. They are called robots and much of the work is done by them on the assembly line. Keeping the labour cost down is key and so much of the work is automated. There is also of course the issue of dealing with Unions, something many companies do not want to do for obvious reasons. Unions are not a problem in China and there is only one that I know of, the ACFTU. A union run by the communist government.

Oh the shame.

Its's OK. It's not like you've ever owned one or anything like that :-p

Still I'm sure we can find it in our kind hearts to forgive you. Once you're north of 50 it all starts going downhill

Back on the meds tomorrow. Who hoo !

So I'd suggest that we ignore the Chinese at our peril as the same thing will happen as when the Japanese started to build bikes.

They killed the British bike industry within 10 years.

I'll admit we were complacent at the time but just how long has it taken us to make motorcycles as good as Hodna and Yamaha do now ?

Believe me Bill, this changed my life ...There is much more than what is believed.
Briefly ... in ten years i have undergone twelve operations and as many as twenty hospitalizations in thirty years!
Now i'm 80% disabled, i am 59 years old but the spirit is strong and i never stopped fighting and knowing that i have a scooter waiting for me to carry me around helps me add a reason to survive.

Is China going to stick to making smaller budget prices motorcycles/scooters or will it move up into the premium bracket ?

Right now CF Moto has a 700cc bike in patent proceedings. They also are building KTM 390cc bikes for the Chinese market. There are also discussions about building the bigger V-Twins for KTM for other markets. Keep in mind that Honda didn't build the 750cc four in their early days since whatever they built would be shiny new. The Chinese can pick a host of brands to either reverse engineer or pick and choose what aspects they like when they build a bigger motorcycle.

My wife is Chinese, works flipping hard, as do all her siblings and so did her parents after loosing everything to idi amin and then starting again.

They are deeply hard working, diligent, respectful people and guaranteed they donít have forums like dissing other cultures because they are too grown and respectful.

Get a grip everyone.

Any crap products are down to the company that sells them, regardless of where they where built or components came from.

It's strictly one of acceptance. In the 1970s when I rode Kawasakis there was a subtle impression that My Rice Burner was a substitute for the day when I could buy a BMW or other European bike. Ultimately acceptance for Chinese vehicles in this country will come when they are more mainstream and you see Chinese bike dealer signs on the street. Buick sells the Envision, wholly built in China, without a hint of bad press.

Look at the title of the thread, itís exactly what this whole thread is about.

The Chinese produce rubbish

Thatís what this thread is about pure and simple.

The tittle is Chinese Harley's with a few question marks. HD is a VERY American company so I could see German Harley's also being followed by a few question marks.
