I finally was able to find a locksmith that was willing to try and make keys for my glove box/steering column, and seat...since the only key my P came with was the ignition key...he was able to cut a seat key and a glove box key...but that glove box key doesn't work in steering column...I did provide the correct key blanks...if any P owner is willing to take a pic of their steering column key and send it to me...it might help the locksmith understand how to cut it so that it also works on the column...I promise not to steal your scoot...thanks!

This is from my 1980 p200. Original steering column key that was covered in rust. I soaked it in vinegar for weeks then scrubbed the remaining rust off it.. put it in the steering lock and it still works. Will be getting a new duplicate made and saving this for the wall.

Once you get the barrel out, I have a simple way to check how "close" your key is to fitting the ignition & a way to make your existing key fit that barrel (but you would need to use that barrel on th seat, as it's easier to pick)... lemme know if you need info

Smells like 2-stroke...and victory
Victory! So the locksmith was able to cut a seat key (informed me that the lock is made by Fiat), he then cut a glove box key...upon arrival at home, it didn't work on steering column. He asked me to drop off scoot on Saturday and leave it so that he could work on it between jobs...4 hours later, he had cut a key that fit the steering column and glove box...he told me that the steering column lock is a bit more advanced than the glove box...so you need to cut a key to fit the steering column first. Needless to say, I now have a plethora of duplicates. After one locksmith literally berating me for being dumb enough to think a key could be cut without an original to another telling me to buy blanks and then telling me it was impossible...this is a victory that made me much happier than it should have. BTW, the neiman keys that I purchased from Sip didn't even fit into the locks...Thanks for all the help and advice. 12 months later, I have keys for all the locks.

Excellent Caveman! Glad you got it sorted. And thanks for posting this. I've got a glovebox key but it doesn't work for the steering lock.

And thank you SubEther - I'll check out the link!
