We have a 2014 Super Sport (we are the second owner) that makes a poppy/crackling sound on deceleration, recently test rode a newer Super Sport and it was quiet as a mouse.

Did our previous owner modify the exhaust?

Crackles and pops from the exhaust when decelerating are usually indicative that the exhaust gasket bushing between the silencer and the exhaust downpipe manifold is leaking air in and exhaust gases out. that produces the popping noises etc. They don't last very long and should be renewed if ever the silencer is removed for wheel removal for example. But they simply wear out due to movement as you ride over time anyway.

One way to tell if the gasket is leaking is to (without burning yourself on the hot exhaust pipe) hold your hand near the exhaust joint and gently rev the engine with the bike on the centre stand. You can normally feel the exhaust gas leaking. Be aware the bike might move if you rev it too hard on the centre stand and this could bring your hand into contact with the hot exhaust pipe.

There are some other things that can cause it too but the one listed above is the most likely. It's quite common for this to happen. Easy job to fix.

Oh, and welcome to the site. Post often!
