I'm about to finish wiring up the M179 LED top case lights I bought from Scooterwest.com. Now comes the tricky part, can someone feed me a clue biscuit as to where to access the wiring? Will I have to take off the rear fairings? Or just the fuel fill assembly?
I've watched the scooterwest video a couple of million times but Rocket's doing a GTS, so pretty easy peasy for him. I have a GT200 shop manual (bought on eBay), found a glorious color-coded wiring diagram that show what wire controls what (attached). Just a matter of locating the big wiring gob and unwrapping the greasy electrical tape.

Hi Amy,

I have added accessory rear lighting on both LX and GTS Vespas.

The wire loom runs on the right side of the bike along the bottom of the metal cowl and is easily accessible by removing the plastic trim strip that sits on the bottom edge of the cowl.

It should be the same for a GT.

The wire colours are on your wiring diagram.

Run the wires from the top case to the black plastic trim that surrounds the gas tank. The GTS’s have grill-type openings and you can run the wire into the engine compartment then around to the right side and down to the edge of the cowl where you can then tap into the loom.

I added a five-pin trailer plug so that I could unplug the wire and remove the top case if I needed to, without having to completely remove the wiring.

I posted detailed project reports on my blog:

For the LX (including the trailer plug):

For the GTS:

I did it! All by my lonesome.
Had to upload the video to Youtube, but here's a short run-through of the lights I installed. After locating the clip and releasing the wiring loom from the frame, the rest was easy!

A shout out to Jess and his 2005 LED bullet lights post
GT200 L.E.D. Bullet Light Mod (with pictures!)

because he was also installing on a GT200, that made installing on mine that much easier.

If it doesn't load and you really want to watch you may need to search under AmyPfeiffer - it's the only one!

Hi Amy
I just searched for that light kit on scooter west and could not find it,
They have lights for the LX but not the gas top box

Here's the link to what I purchased:

I don't know what top case you have but this one totally works if you have two reflectors (42L size).

To Soul Surfer:

Noice! Is that a newer variation on Plum or some other color? Almost looks like the Espresso brown they came out with - hard to tell until you compare it with the floor mat. Love the seat and backrest - I'm going to get a new cover in that color. Eventually. And maybe some rear crash/chrome bars. And. And. And.

Nicely done. It is very satisfying to do a project like that with success.
