Long story short. Went from 1.2 million to looking for quarters all over the house to buy a little caesers pizza in 1 year with a bad investment and scam.

I can't afford a car or suv. My situation now is just a little better and I can get a Vespa soon.

My question is. How do you take a girl on a date? I would not feel safe with a girl riding on my back since I will be brand new to scooters.

Is it weird to not pick her up in a car? Just small things I think of because in the past I always picked up my x girlfriend or any dates.

How to start? You can do anything you want and whatever you can pull off. Just don't lead with the "I used to be rich but..." line. She won't want to hear that. She's interested in you now and if she's not into you because you're on a Vespa then move on. Lots of ladies love the thrill and fun of a Vespa. Remember, the car does not make the man. Lots of money makes many things easier but lots of money doesn't make you cool and fun if you're not that already.

If she's really into you, it shouldn't make an ounce of difference what you use to take her out in providing you get her a correct sized helmet.

If she's more concerned about her hair getting messed-up or she wouldn't be seen dead on the back of a Vespa, is she the right girl for you? - If she needs educating about PTW's, you could try explaining to her that a Vespa is the Rolls Royce of scooters.

This ranks up there with some of the weirdest posts I've seen on MV ...

Having said that, the short answer is yes.

External inline image provided by member with no explanatory text

Still, there's gear to consider and all that, especially being new. Learn what "Toreador Pants" means and check out some of the gear threads. And then consider your date.

Happy riding!

I'd advise not taking anyone on the back until you have more small two wheel experience under your belt.

Can't you just put in your tinderorwhateverkidsareusingtohookuptoday profile that they must have a scooter, and then they can pick you up. We live in enlightened times you know, and modern women like to be in charge.

You just need the right bike and enough experience, at first short runs at reasonable speeds in light traffic, the right place and good weather, find the right girl to hold on to you who trusts you enough so she knows what to expect and isn't all tense. This needs to be stylish Vespa fun, not a thrill ride. Yet.

Now I can absolutely guarantee you that it isn't just adequate, it is the very best way to go.
You will get very close right off the bat.

In Italy everything starts on two wheels, there are also books that talk about it.
The problem is to be on foot and not the other way around.

Yeh why not. Depends where you live I guess. She might not like it if it's freezing rain outside when you turn up. When I first got a scooter that's how I learnt to ride as it was my only transport in a foreign country but probably better to get some experience first.

Be quirky ! Razz emoticon
Ride the Vespa to her house and go out in her car.
That way she has to take you home to pick up your ride.
You never know what may develop when she sets the pace...

...and you can be certain that she's not after you for your money !

Instead of losing a fortune, you have shrugged off the chains of materialist consumerism in favor of a simpler, more meaningful lifestyle.

You need to explain in simple words how they should lean with the bike and not fight the handling. I took a friend out on my Burgman and she made riding SO HARD! Fought the turns, wanted to put her feet down and left claw marks on my sides! If your serious abut this scooter date thing buy a Grip-N-Ride waist belt.

Romance on Two Wheels
I love everyone's input on riding ladies two up - you hound dogs! Especially,
the brake, brake, brake.

In my limited experience, mothers scare their daughters about the danger of
injury riding on a motorcycle. But a scooter - it is a "Chick Magnet".

It even worked for me. I was a lonely sailor in San Diego waiting for orders to go over seas. I had a small 125cc machine. I would buy a bottle of cheap
Paisano Red Wine, French Bread, Hard Cheese, and Italian salami.

Here was my pick-up line, "Do you want to ride up the coast, stop on the beach, sip on some wine and watch the sun go down".

Mama-Mia molto Romantico! Met several nice gals this way.

Hey, even a Blind Hog could find an acorn with this scooter set up.

That is the news from Lake Wobegon MN today.

I take my girl on dates on the back of the scooter all the time...

few things to consider...

I would ride a season solo before attempting to take a passenger...the added weight can make the bike behave differently and you need some experience

luggage rack/back rest....i have a rear case that has a backrest pad on it...it makes her feel more secure knowing that its there and she can lean against it or hold on to it

sometimes dates involve a a couple adult beverages...i would not recommend getting on scooter after having any booze...especially for a new rider and especially if you have precious cargo

all in all its a great experience...just take it easy and be safe and always talk to her about it...if shes scared it wont be good for you.....my girl doenst like to ride pillion on the motorcycle but loves putting around town on the back of scooter with me

I have no idea... my wife doesn't let me date.

Plus, she rides her own scoot.

Back when we were youngsters, I think she dated me just to piss off her parents... the trifecta of what parents don't want to see show up at their door: long hair, played in a band, and rode up on a motorcycle. Could have been worse: I could have shown up in my ratty old van.

I think it all worked out: I taught her to ride on my Triumph 650 Bonneville, when we were both in high school. While we have ridden two-up for tens of thousands of miles, she prefers to have her own ride. The only time she has been on the back of my Vespa was when her scoot was getting a new tire and we went out for breakfast while the shop did the work. She was not a fan of "the reach" around the bulby back end of the Vespa.

You may want to look into the passenger foot-peg extensions. And definitely lose the "I used to be rich" routine... chicks don't go for a self-professed loser. Be that confident guy who rolls up in a manly sorta way on a Vespa.

Honestly, I have no idea if that works, but this is the internet, so... yeah, it works.

I don't know how old you are, and if you're over the age of, say, 50 or so, the expectations might be different, but you are not required to pick someone up for a date (Also, no woman with any brains should get into a car with someone until they know them better - hell, I wouldn't get on the back of a scoot with someone I didn't know.) Just meet at wherever you're going. That is generally the standard these days.

And yeah, don't pull any of the "I used to be rich" stuff.

I'm lucky my wife (who has her MC license) is a great pillion. I honestly don't even notice she's there outside of a little loss of acceleration on the Vespa. It's not hard to teach someone to be a good pillion and it only takes a few rides. The biggest issue with a Vespa or any bike that is not a king/queen setup is bonking helmets on quick stops. I had a lot of girls on the back of my 200 CC 2-stroke scoots back in my mod days and it was never an issue. If you can plant your feet easily and are comfortable with the bike it's no problem. On a 4-stroke 150 I imagine it would kinda suck unless you both are lightweights. I can't stand slow acceleration or weak torque on a bike. My wife was afraid of the sidecar on the Ural at first but after a few trips she was literally checking her email and shooting video in no time.

I showed up at my later-to-be-wife's stepfather's place with my long hair. I had been in a hard rock band. And I was driving a VW van that I had converted to a camper, complete with a bed in the back.

She was honestly worried that he was going to shoot me.

I wonder if it's the motorcycle, or the boy who rides a motorcycle, that mothers find more scary?

Or maybe they are just envious.
I don't think too many parents are threatened by a Vespa... They may not want their daughters getting on the back of one but about the only thing threatening about me or any of my friends back in my dating days would maybe have been a military fishtail parka and pointy shoes....

I'm still not rich, but I used to be taller and better looking.
