i have 2014 300 GTS with digital mileage and clock display with 12k km, but as soon as i start the vespa the clock goes back to 12.00 and the total mileage display position. i can set the clock etc with the menu button no problem, but on the next start-up i am back to 12.00 clock.

I checked my battery (3 years old) and it holds 12.6V.
I trickle charged it too but no affect...
I only have usb port accessory installed - nothing extra to increase the load.

Do these vespa's (with digital mileage and clock display) have the renowned clock battery LR43/386 buried in the instrument panel still which could be dying?

What else should i look at? Electrical shorting?

What is the battery voltage while starting? Is it dropping under load?
Any problems starting?

when starting the voltage drops slightly (11.8V) and then goes back to a healthy 14.0V so its charging ok . there is no problem with starting the motor at all. also the resetting does not happen on every start - i would say every five...

Well, as it's 12:00 and you're in Belgium, have a beer! In fact have a few, you won't care then!

Ok, so it could be that you have a slightly loose battery terminal. It's not unheard of to produce this symptom if you have. But probably more likely is the 'mode' button is faulty/dirty. Another thing to check is that the multiplug on the back on the digital display is pressed fully home and is not moist or corroded. It's easy to get to by taking off or lifting up the plastic headstock to expose the plug. It should be a tight fit but after a while I've notice some customers bikes are showing a loser fitting plug which can again cause this symptom.

The speedoís behavior points to a cut in its 12V supply. Itís either a loose battery terminal (as already mentioned), battery going bad, problem with the harness or the speedo itself (corrosion, cold weld of pins, etc.)...

i re-secured the battery leads and see if it helps. all other tips i think are in the right direction - i also have a feeling it happens more often when it is wet and/or cold.

i can confirm that after tightening the battery terminals the clock resetting has stopped, so yes a logical solution! thanks for your suggestions!

It's very surprising I know, but I've seen this quite a few times. The battery tightening will often cure it. Well done and thanks for posting back about it. It's really helpful to folks. Thank you!

I had the same thing happen on my BV350, it was the keep alive fuse. that feed power to the dash and headlights.
