Piaggio, once again "redesigns" and chooses a new oil filter supplier for the Leader engines. New supplier is MAHLE. I had to design a tool and have it cut. First one was "cheaply" done on a waterjet to make sure it fits. Next one will be inox and laser cut...

Many vehicles use this type of oil filter. There are plenty of wrenches for them available on Amazon, eBay, MC sites, .... . Many of them with 6 sided bolt heads and 3/8" socket for removal. No reason to design and fabricate your own but good for you to undertake it.

My BMW 1100RT uses this type of filter and you have to use this style of tool because the filter is recessed into the bottom of the engine.

I know, I have one, but space is limited on some models (exhaust in the way)...

Got it! SOunds like a fun project building your own tools.

You could also use oil filter pliers. I've been using these for years.

MAHLE is a great filter! Been using them on my Porsche 911 and VW Vanagan for decades. Recommended by Porsche and VW.

We just got in a case of the new Mahle oil filter. They do look different. Piaggio just sticks their label over the Mahle label on the box and ships them off. I'm not sure if the filters will be individually package for the US market, but the ones we got from Pontedera ship in a box of 40.

Ah, they're Mahle filters - one of the very best. I might get me some of those if the price is OK.

I ordered some filters from scooterpartsco and got these.

Any link for the wrench or cap? I used a strap wrench to tighten but would like the right wrench for future use and not sure what size this is.

I just use big channel locks and squish it a little.
Never been a problem coming off.
Then to put on, little oil on the oring and turn by hand only.

Oil filters are to be hand tight only, I would go loosen that up and re-tighten by hand.

I thought it has hand tight and then 1/2 to 3/4 turn. Perhaps I am wrong about that.

It depends on how strong your hands are, I suppose.

But I would still appreciate if someone has a link to a tool that fits or knows the size.

Thank you.

Easy to find out. Found this out here I think. The tool number you need is the size of the filter in MM and the number of flat grip surfaces.
So measure the filter across and then the number of flat surfaces on the side of the filter that the wrench grabs on to.
SO a 30MM filter with 8 flat spots would be a 30x8 filter wrench.

And what's the matter with using a hex wrench or even a 3/8" (or is it 1/4") square drive?

A filter made by Mahle.
We get them in boxes of 40, and I'm thinking about offering complete boxes for sale. How much interest is there in buying 40 Genuine Vespa oil filters at a time for about $200?

I'd be just about as interested to buy 20 belts in one go.
Which is to say, um, no thank you.

5$ a filter. Good deal but I don't need that many. 😀
