Next month I'll be traveling on a work trip to Hanoi, Vietnam and the surrounding northern area. This will be my first time visiting VN, and will be a short trip of only 3 days mostly filled with work business. But I hope to get a little free time to have some new experiences. Any fellow scooteriests have any good info before I go? Any Vespa pitstops worth checking out while in the area. I'm all about trying all the new foods!! Thanks in advance.

Hanoian here. I often bring my Vespa to this shop: https://www.facebook.com/suongvespa/, he's an ex-Piaggio technician. Good work at great price.
If it's only for 3 days don't bother renting bikes/scooters, just install Grab (SEA equivalence of Uber, in fact they acquired Uber's assets when Uber pulled out of SEA) and call in rides. Look up any dishes that you want to try and I can recommend my own favorite shop for them. |

#1. Learn how to cross a a street heavily populated with scooters.
#2. For sure visit the old city along with the homes of Ho Chi Minh. #3. Enjoy the food. The old city is one of my favorite destinations that I've traveled. |

Re #1 Be predictable. Walk, don't run and never change direction or stop walking. Scooters will judge whether to go around in front of you or behind you. If you stop walking, they might run into you.

Definitely worth getting Grab setup before you go. Anything that reduces the amount of trips to an ATM is handy.

Some of the best seafood I've ever had was in Vietnam.
For a quick lunch the Banh mi at Banh mi 25 was my go to place. Awesome! |

As a pedestrian, move with the crowd. There's a pattern a logic to traffic flow if you watch for a while. Be part of the pattern.
Hire a moto and moto tour guide and get out of town for an adventure. I did this and had a great day out. |

Thanks for all the Tips everyone! I'm really looking forward to eating some good food! I'm open for any and all dishes, and I'll be sure to keep a steady determined pace when crossing
Looks like I'll be spending most of my time in the Hai Phong area. Any good Vespa shops or not-to-be-missed food stops in that area? Ancient sites or intriguing spots to check off my list? |

Bring your own helmet from the states. What they have is not the same standard.
Go to AAA and get an international drivers license/permit before you go so that you are legal. They have lots of junk. Look real hard for someplace reputable to rent from before you go. |
