Hey, I drove real fast the night before (against the limiter for 13km) and the next day when I drove 1-2km my GTS just broke down suddenly in the middle of a normal drive (50 km/h). When trying to ignite, it gives this horrendous sound. Any guesses what it could be? I have not yet had the chance to open it up. I appreciate any insights.

I recorded a video:

Sounds like the starter engaging and turning the motor over, then dis-engaging and still spinning.
I know some of the Vespa can get dirty Bendix that can causes this.
Hopefully JimC will reply.

The GTS doesn't have a Bendix, it has a sprag clutch - and these can fail.

Whether it's that or a graunched bearing or piston can only be found out by dismantling.

The OP has just bought a replacement engine, so perhaps the problem was terminal?
