Acquaintance of mine with this Vespa
-that has less than 1000km
-sitting in a garage since 2017
-outside looks good
but...I'm wondering what to look for inside??
I can think of a fresh oil change. Anything else?

Look for obvious physical damage, oil looks clean and normal, fluid levels OK, asking if it has had the recorded service, if it starts and runs OK?
"Inside" means what on a scooter? The real question beyond the above is model, age & price and how it performs in a road test. |

Model is between 2016/2017. Up till now it has less than 1000km on the odometer. I doubt there'll be any leaks but worrying if the oil and gas would be ok.

Here's one more thing to check. The air filter. Here's an example from an 08 gts250 I picked up a few months ago. This is what I found when I took off the airbox and opened it. Complete annihilation of the filter element. The other air filter in the belt cover was intact, visually, but crumbled into dust when I pulled it out.

I usually look the bike over well, checking for paint and bodywork, especially horrid bodywork and rust or concealed rust. look how much oil is encrusted on the motor, the tip of the muffler, roll it and check out the brakes. Shift the bike, check the cables, shocks, wheels and tires, mileage, ask if speedo works. Look inside the tank. Look at controls and what wiring you can find. Does it have everything you'll need equipment wise to put it on the road. Ask about any mechanical expenditures, how often it was serviced and what the seller feels it needs. You can usually tell how much they know by doing so. Start it up, rev the engine and see how quiet it sounds and take note of how easily it starts. Take it for a ride if it looks safe to ride. Ask any questions you may have regarding how it performed, and then present your case on what it's going to need to safely put it on the road if you're still interested. Note any unique items it may be missing that you might desire, and always ask where they acquired it and when, and how long the previous individual owned the bike. Make sure and point out your observations as you review the bike without being a dick. This will hopefully make the owner realize that you're not an idiot and hopefully it might soften them on the price if in fact the bike might have issues which might take time and monetary expenditure to rite.

In addition to everything listed above I'd factor in a brake fluid flush. Brake fluid should be replaced every two years so subtract that from the final price if you need some leverage to bring the price down.

a '16 is not actually "vintage", and you ought basically be able to ride it out of it wherever it's kept, then do the maintenance necessary. I mean hell I'd buy it sight-unseen if it's cheap enough.
