you just bought yourself a pre-patinated Vespa part. Some people have to wait YEARS for that to happen naturally. Consider yourself blessed.

Good thinking. Iíll just take a scraper and pre-patina the frame to match. Problem solved.

Ok got some color on the frame.

Itís hard to photograph because it looks different in different light and from different angles. Itís a light silver metallic.

Aw knock it off ... you guys are too kind. Itís not bad for an outdoor patio job, just donít look too closely. Appreciate the compliments. I think the coloríll work on the GL. Itís much lighter in the sun, almost aluminum. Super fine metallic.

I'm thinking more of a gunmetal metallic if I ever get going on my GL, but I only hope it comes close to looking like that bodywork.

I think it looks fantastic, is it a sky blue? Really hard to tell. How did the cowls turnout?

Thx Lynn. No, thereís no blue in it. Itís just reflecting the sky. Iím happy with the cowls and fender. As you can see the color is totally different under dusty fluorescent lights in a cluttered garage.

Thanks very much, K. Calm, clear lake ... with a few wind ripples maybe.

Glad to see you and Blue out and about enjoying the beautiful summer.

I thought chrome plating had a few layers of other metal plating under it like nickle and copper?

You thought that because you were thinking correctly.

The typical substrate for chrome is copper, followed by nickel, then the chrome over that. And that assumes that you're dealing with a conductive object,i.e. something metallic. Getting an initial conductive base layer on was one piece of my resin-cast turn signals that I still haven't really figured out.

Backside.

A few bugs decided to commit suicide in the wet paint. But I think I can remove their remains.

Nice metallic color in the sun and as expected, very very shiny. You get a killer topcoat. Top marks in home painting.

Gracias amigos. Ya, itís shiny, but itíll dull down. Didnít have a lot of choice with this particular paint. Gonna need some color sanding too. Seemed like every time I pulled the trigger a gust of wind would come up.

But hey, paintingís done. Letís get this this rolling!

Color sanding = paint lingo for wet sanding to remove defects, like orange peel
