Yep, not bad. Hardest part is getting the peened retainer off the old tube... every time I’ve done mounts I’ve had to grind that retainer down to practically nothing before it can be be pried off.

Do you mind posting a pic of your set up with the all-thread, washers and swing arm block? (I remember seeing a scooter west video but it was pretty sloppy.)

No don’t mind ... i’ll have to re-create it though, didn’t take pics of the set up. Happy to walk you through it.

And yeah, that Scooterwest video is a hoot.

On to swing arm...

Gets a squeaky cleaning and coat of epoxy sealer before topcoat.

Great painting weather here in SD btw.

Front fork bottom bearing dust cap?
Just rebuilding my front end.
Much fun to be had getting the o-rings either side side of the bottom spring pivot... The replacements from SIP are too tight to stretch over the casting then roll back after the shaft is inserted. I had to fiddle them in from the side and get them lined up before pushing the shaft in.
Had a bunch of parts shot-blasted and powder-coated. Very impressed with the tough finish.

Boom. Good call, HK.

Here’s a random tip: If your O-rings deteriorate and you don’t feel like taking the front end apart to put new ones on: you can cut the new o-ring, slip it on and super glue the ends back together. It works!

Nice - I think I saw Robot from ScooterWest suggest the same.
Another top tip, make sure the angled grease nipple on the spring pivot angles away from the speedo cable.
Unless you enjoy doing it twice...

Shout out to Mark (poidog) for giving me a hand the past few days with texts and pics of his much nicer GL to give me a frame of reference for reassembly ... and for coming up with a new name for this project: “The Rescue Mod”. Ha, perfect. Cheers!

A dust cover for the fork bearing axle that attaches to the swing arm. It should have a piece of lubed up felt inside the brass washer. I stuffed it with grease and reassembled.

I am sure many have seen these videos but I am doing a fork rebuild and recently came across this series which is quite a bit more detailed than the Scooterwest one and has a great step by step breakdown of disassembly and reassembly. Even for those of us that don't speak German it is pretty easy to follow.

Yep, those are excellent vids.

In the second one (at 8:55) he installs the brass dust cap with no spacer behind it. Parts book seems to show a spacer (#39).

Comments?

I noticed in that Vespa GL parts picture above, it looks like the fender holder are bolts that are exposed on the outside vs the "T" type clips/bolt that holds the fender and trim on and hidden under the trim.

I put a spacer in. I didn't want to crush the brass spacer and center the swingarm on the axle...

Still in progress...

I ground all the rust out and fabbed a patch out of sheet metal. The metal was too thin to weld so on the advice of my body supply guy, “welded” it in place with panel adhesive, which is basically JB on steroids (and costs 10x as much).

Coated everything with a epoxy primer and now working on the contours with some filler. I think it’s a solid repair.

This project is looking really good, I just realized a couple days ago I'm missing that long tube for the taillite wiring, I was feeling a moment of frustration to say the least, especially after all the welding I completed, could have been an easy fab job. Now I have to find another way of routing the wires back to keep clear of the rear wheel.
