Winston-my 2007 MP3 250- cranked over beautifully-as usual-this morning but no response from engine. Plug 'dry'.
Pulled the plug-big fat spark, removed top left relay, checked ok ( also swapped to be sure). Still dead motor. Can't see any leaks around fuel lines. Suspect the fuel pump. Are there any other checks I should do prior to strewing plastic everywhere?
I was hoping to order a pump-if required-prior to removing the suspect one but note that during 2007 pumps came in 1 & 2 hose variations. Is this important- and any recommendations on 'after market' pumps.
As per the Service ManualI page 311 the part No: for 'Item 7 is #004073 is this relevant?
There was a recall on many of the '07 - '09 250s regarding the fuel pump. It would be worth checking to see if your bike is covered and/or if the replacement had already been done. Any dealer can tell you if you give them your VIN number.
If you can hear the fuel pump 'whirr' for a couple of seconds upon first switch-on, then you know the fuel pump is working. If you can't, and the 'injection loads relay' is working (a multimeter or test light will tell you) then a new fuel pump is the answer. But check your VIN for the recall!
