Spallanzani's doctors have isolated the coronavirus

The announcement was made by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza: "Many more chances to understand and study". The results will be shared with the international community
Coronavirus has been isolated from Spallanzani. The news was given by the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, speaking precisely in the institute for infectious diseases in the capital where the two Chinese tourists who are currently the only people tested positive for the virus on Italian soil are hospitalized.

Italy is the first country in Europe to do so. This is the result obtained by virologists less than 48 hours after the diagnosis of positivity for the first two patients in Italy. "It is a fundamental step" explain the researchers "that will allow us to refine existing diagnostic methods and set up new ones""Isolating the virus will allow us to improve the response to the coronavirus emergency, to learn more about the mechanisms of the epidemic and to prepare the most appropriate measures" said the scientific director of the Spallanzani hospital, Giuseppe Ippolito.

The availability in the laboratories of the new pathogen, moreover, "will allow to study the mechanism of the disease for the development of treatments and the development of the vaccine. The partial sequence of the virus isolated in the Spallanzani laboratories, called 2019-nCoV / Italy- INMI1 has already been deposited in the GenBank database, and soon the virus will also be made available to the international scientific community ".

With the first one you can no longer be sure of doing the only thing that was already difficult, with the other you cannot touch and breathe ... tell me what you can do without getting sick of a deadly virus?

Ah, simpler times with big hair bands and 2-stroke engines...

It looks like we have bats and ourselves of course to thank for this round.

Katherine Hepburn went to Africa to film the African Queen with Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall, who came along for fun.

Nearly everyone became ill from something in the water, but Bogart & Bacall didnít. Supposedly because they were drunk the entire time.

I suggest we all get hammered, and stay hammered for the duration. Itís the only way to be safe.

If you are freaking out about corona virus but you didn't get a flu shot, you've got it backwards. Corona virus has killed 132 people so far and all in China with 6000 world wide. Most of the deaths, like with the annual flu, were elderly or people with complicating health problems.

By comparison this year's flu season has killed 8,200 people with 15 million cases and that is just in the US.

I'm not saying Corona does not warrant a strong public-health response but a lot of deaths could be prevented since many people that get the annual flu did not get a flu shot.
What sticky said.^^
61,000 (sixty one THOUSAND) flu deaths in the US alone last year, and it's business as usual, with anti-vaxxers not slacking up a bit.

A couple hundred corona virus deaths, while tragic for the victims and families, is a rounding error. So far, novocorona virus has a fatality rate of about 3%, and that is in vulnerable population categories.

Totally unconcerned about Corona Virus. Right now, my immediate concern is Norovirus. My seven year old woke up about 44 hours ago vomiting... Vomiting continued for several hours and was accompanied by diarrhea. Now heís totally fine - itís like nothing happened! The incubation period for Norovirus is around 24-48 hours. So far my wife and I are fine. I bleached the life out of my bedding, clothing, and house today. Hand sanitizer does nothing to Norovirus; nor do most cleaning products (including Lysol wipes and even many hospital-grade cleaners). Rigorous hand washing and bleach are the most effective cleaners for humans and surfaces. In any event, my fate should be known my morning.

My wife and I made it through the night without getting Norovirus symptoms. I donít think we are totally in the clear yet, but itís been over 48 hours since I shared a some pasta and a bowl of ice cream with the little guy (4 hours before he woke up vomiting violently). Maybe now Iíll start freaking out about Corona Virus - there is a case 2 hours away in Boston, MA - but Iím really too busy to perseverate on something that is not a present threat. And Iíd drink some Corona beer, but Iím not a fan of it... If only the virus was named New England IPA virus...

Apparently in Singapore there is a prostitute from Wuhan who has the virus so now all her recent clients also have to go into quarantine, which might prove embarrassing.

Funny if it is true though

99.9 % of insurance pays for them. If not they are only $10 at most pharmacies and free at lots of them.

The real problem is to make it clear that getting vaccinated is safe and useful, there are still prejudices.

Vaccinated against pneumonia is not 100% certainty you will not contract it as my doctor told me. Each year I get the flu shot and every now and then I get the flu. Like the flu pneumonia comes in many forms both bacterial and viral.

Kim Jong Un had better hope the virus doesn't make its way to North Korea. Would probably wipe the whole country out.

Of course we'd never know until the crickets drowned out the loudspeakers at the DMZ.

My wife, despite working in a hospital environment, for years and years never got one and didnít get the flu. The past few years its been made mandatory by the employer that the staff either gets the shot or has to wear a mask while in a patients room or speaking to any family member, etc. So she, and everyone in her department got the shot this year and every one of them got the flu. I guess the CDC guessed wrong to his year. ( It comes out that the flu shot given this year only started out at 60% effective and as of a week ago was listed at 20% effective)

20% better but that's not exactly a good batting average. Looks like a lot of eggs may have sacrificed themselves for nothing this year. I'm not anti flu shot but I do think we are coddling our children too much and that may contribute to the huge uptick in severe allergies we've seen in the last few decades. A peanut is still a peanut. It's the children that have changed.
