I just met up with my undergrad photography professor, who is an Italian from Milan in the 70's and 80's, who I haven't seen in a decade, after she saw me posting a lot of Vespa photos on my Instagram account. She contacted me to talk about Vespas as she grew up riding them and was excited to see my interest in them. I found it very interesting to hear her talk about owning and riding small frame 50ccs and how her friends would tune her 50 to 75cc and the stylish expansion exhausts they would put on to gain an extra 10kph. She said her tuned small frame felt very out of control and all the bolts started to rattle off sheet her friend tuned it! I laughed at that and said that will be me shortly on my Stella. One thing she mentioned which I had never heard of before but found very interesting and won't if anyone had used our know of.. Apparently in Milan in the 70's and 80's they had dedicated "Vespa pumps" which were premix pumps that you could choose your premix percentage and pump gas already premixed! Anyone have photos of a pump like this or used one before? Funny enough, she did say those guys who "really cared" about their Vespas would use the regular pump and mix their own castor oil!
Just thought this was a funny anecdote that I had never heard of and they some of you might have had experience with one, and others like me might find it cool to hear about!
