At first it would start up and idle fine, but then when I turned the throttle it would sputter and then stall. I got it to run for a little bit, then it started doing the same, and now it won't start. I can hear the fuel pump I think, but it won't turn over. Any ideas? I've swapped gas, tried higher octane, cleaned and reoiled the air filter, and now changed the spark plug.

Check the battery both for charge (bung it on a charger anyway) and for solid stable connections.

I put it on a trickle charger and it seems like its fully charged. It's cranking, just won't start now. Could it be a fuel filter? I stripped the plastics off just to discover that changing the fuel filter involves dropping the tank. No Vespa mechanics nearby and with CoVid it makes it even trickier.

Pull the fuel line off the injector and turn on ignition.you should get fuel pour out.
Then reconnect fuel line and remove injector from intake manifold.now watch injector as you crank engine, you should get fuel spray out of the injector. If any of the above does not work as discribed it's a fault. |

Thanks I'll try that. Can I access it easily through the opening under the seat or do I need to tear anything down again?

Sounds like fuel injector. Mine had the same issue a while back. I got one from scooter west installed and it fired up first time. They don't come cheap from them though and they might not be shipping due to covid 19

Straight forward job, I have just replaced mine.
Remove the under seat panel, press the white section- on both fuel lines- to remove them from injector, also remove cable ties to make this easier, undo the one bolt-8mm socket . This holds the injector. You have to unclip the retainer securing the lead into the injector socket. The injector unit pulls out with a little bit of resistance due to the O ring seal. If your fuel pump is faulty-as was mine-that is a whole different kettle of fish to replace. Much patience and lots of space to strew the acres of plastic is required. Cheers. |

Thanks for the step by step. I tore down most of the plastics, breaking a few tabs along the way, in hopes that the filter and pump were easily accessible, not, so I will try this with hopes that that is what the problem was. At least try diagnosing while waiting for the part if needed. Not very much info online about this scooter.

is there a picture online of the injector location and parts you are describing? Before I start undoing every bolt and white tab under there.

As Buddyspudface said "Pull the fuel line off the injector and turn on ignition.you should get fuel pour out."
To pull the fuel line off there are little square 'white' depressions on the fuel connector that release the latch securing the line (on mine anyway). As I said, there is 1 x bolt that comes off with an 8mm socket. Yes, there are pictures in the service manual. However, its all pretty self evident when you remove the cover under the seat. Mr Google will provide many pictures of Fuel Injector type IWP 182. |

there was also a recall on the fuelpump in 2009 Piaggio dropped the 250 in 2010 for the 300

I tried-it didn't work for me.
You can remove the little conical shaped filter that is in the inlet side of the injector and see if it is clogged. It is very tight. I used a method shown on a Youtube clip. That was to insert a suitable self tapping screw into the filter and pull it out. Have a look . I also tried reverse cleaning. Personally I would just fit a new one for all they cost. |

Got it. I will order a new one. Just checking if there was something to do in the mean time.
