I did a bottom end rebuild of a 2008 Vespa GTS250ie. All went OK except for it dies on idle. Chased problem down to an opening on the "intake fitting with depression intake" (part #849243). See picture. Cover hole scooter idles fine, release and it dies.

Schematics indicate that there is a fitting for a charcoal canister on some models that are older than mine. NOt sure it the 2008 had a charcoal canister.

How do I plug the hole OR what is missing that should be there and does it matter?

Thanks
Mac

In my BV 250 there was 3 of them:
1- Vacuum line for the fuel pump (not your case)
2- Hose conecting to the canister system (if you remove, this must be sealed)
3- Vacuum line for the secondary air system pump that blows fresh air straight to the exhaust header (donīt know if the 250ie does have this system)

If that went to the Evap Crap (since removed I take it) then it should be blocked off.

You can see here that should be a brass fitting coming from that hole, then you connect a piece of hose with a screw with silicone and a clamp to keep it blocked.

Without the brass fitting itīs hard to block the air because of the material of the intake manifold. I donīt know if something like JB Weld would do the job and make a perfect seal.

Some good quality duct tape should do the job OK for quite a while - and easily refurbished!

Thanks everyone. I had started another post about a rough idle on a GTS250. This was the reason. Discovered it while spraying injector cleaner looking for vacuum hose leaks.

Here is my solution - I found a sheet metal screw just the right size and screwed it in. It blocked off the air and my rebuilt GTS absolutely Purrs now. I posted my 15 week project rebuild on Instagram @ Macswinford if anyone cares to look. It took way too long and I'm over budget,,,,imagine that.
