I'm keen on tuning it a bit ,it's been deristricted and bigger jet .feels like too rich though.
And I'd like to get the belt good for torque on hills.

Hello!
Just joined this fine group today.

Bought my first Vespa this week! In fact it’s my first motorized vehicle.

This has been my dream since I studied for a semester in Tuscany during my last year at U of Toronto.

She’s a 2012 LX50 in white.

Don’t even have my license yet haha

So is there anything I need to know about caring and maintaining this beast?

Any tips? “Always carry a spare spark plug” or some such thing?

What’s the top speed really?

Should I invest in some sort of additional locks or alarms?

Need a wind screen?

Any recommendations for a top box?

Thanks all. Good to be here

Welcome, the size of the engine is not important ... what matters is passion.

Welcome to both of you. If your LX50 performance leaves you wanting more, here's my recommendation:

Here's the list of what I purchased for my 2006 LX 50 from scooterpartsco.com

1 ea. Malossi 88cc Vespa 4 Stroke Big Bore Cylinder Kit
1 ea. Malossi Power Cam Camshaft for Vespa 2V, Piaggio 2 Valve (the 2012 is a 4 valve and doesn't need this)
1 ea. Bel-Ray Scooter Synthetic Ester Blend 4T Engine Oil - 5W-40
1 ea. Malossi Double Red Air Filter Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia
1 ea. Vespa, Piaggio, Aprilia 50cc 4 Stroke Main Jet Size - 80
1 ea. Dr. Pulley 19x15.5 Sliding Weights Grams - 5.0
1 ea. Malossi Kevlar Belt for Vespa 50cc Scooter

It still runs excellent 3 years and 3,000 miles later without a single breakdown. It runs up to 35 MPH way faster than before I kitted it, and it tops out at 47 MPH on flat ground with my chubby 235 pounds on the seat.

So i think my problem i should first address is a faulty ignition switch it turns itself off while riding. It looks to be easily replaced ? Once i take off the horncast .

Are these readily available?

Could a loose locating pin in the ignition barrel cause problems?

Well that seems to have solved my problem of having to ride with right hand on throttle and left hand holding the key in position ...

Ill put a bit of gaffer tape on the pin to stop it rattling loose.

Thanks for the welcome.

I have owned many older manual vespas and a few Austrian puchs from the 1950s .

I don't mind buzzing around on an auto 50cc . Still gives me a grin .

Cheers

Glad you found the problem!

So is it a worn ignition switch? This is behind the barrel, and relatively easy / inexpensive to replace.
