I'll start by saying "wow". I've owned/ridden sport bikes, Harleys, and a 49cc scooter...all of which were fun and useful in their own ways. I'm most impressed by my new Vespa. To me, it's essentially a motorcycle in scooter clothing. VERY happy.

That being said...something that will take some "getting used to"... owning a liquid cooled machine. All of my other bikes have been air-cooled. I noticed warmth on my legs I'd never felt before from a scooter or motorcycle...so that was different. Also, in stop/go traffic (85 degrees ambient temperature), the radiator fan kicked on and scared the crap out of me. LOL Once I rode about 50 yds, the fan turned off. No biggie, just something new I've not experienced before. Anyway, here's a pic from the Notte's maiden voyage yesterday.

I remember the first time the fan kicked in on my 250, I was on a rally in Belgium, waiting at a toll barrier, I thought the thing was going to take off

Those radiators vents will keep you warm in St Louis if you put a blanket over them.

Well, those vents are certainly keeping me warm right now!

I have a black truck, a black dog, and now a black scooter...I sense a theme developing here.

Fan Cooling the Scoot
Dw33zil,

Thanks for the photo. The new Vespa looks great.

I agree, the 300 is excellent with enough power to get up and out on the expressway.

My 300 Super arrived from the factory with the gasket for the
water pump incorrectly installed. The fan was on constantly because
the scoot was losing coolant.

The good folks on this forum instantly diagnosed the problem. The
dealer did the quick fix under warranty. Not one other problem in five
years.

Happy trails to you.

That is a beautiful Vespa. That color will make it an excellent subject in all photo sessions!

I don't notice the heat in the summer because I am always geared up with riding overpants. But in the winter when I have the Termoscud on that heat is lovely.

Have fun with it. The GTS really is capable of just about anything.

Congrats on the new ride! Yeah the fan freaks out many the first time it kicks in. Did with me as all my previous Vespas were 2-strokes.

Sweet ride. Love the color. Was actually thinking of tearing my Stella down completely, rebuilding the engine, and using a similiar paint to respray it. I love the official CITY OF ST.LOUIS scooter dept. color scheme im rocking now, but need a change.

Congrats though. Ride safe and have fun. Wave if you see me

It's still pretty early, but I'm looking at smoked turn signals front and back, a small smoked windscreen, and MAYBE a front rack. I saw some bar ends that had blinkers built into them some time ago as well that would really be at home on this bike. I may consider doing a gloss black stripe or checker stripe on it at some point too. It's an empty canvas right now, and I'm just coming up with ideas. FOR NOW, I'm perfectly happy with it...for now.

The shop is located here in St. Louis (Moto Europa). They had a Notte on the floor that I purchased on 6/18...I picked it up on 6/24.

I first saw it on 6/16 (along with a Sei Giorni) when my friend picked up his Piaggio Liberty...then in true fashion, I began obsessing over buying one or the other...finally settled on the Notte two days later. LOVED the Sei Giorni, but felt that the Notte was a bit more of an empty canvass for me to finesse.

Good choice & I believe it is proven fact that the black ones are fastest. (does not hold true for cows or to any fact checking)

You can buy black reflector tape that looks like nothing in daylight but reflects like crazy in the dark. Black looks great, and most of us seem to love it, but I'm always worried that it will be the excuse the Prius driver will tell the cop while they scrape what's left of me off the front end of the car.

I put that black tape that reflects white on the back of my sons black helmet. He still doesn't know his head lights up in the dark and probably wouldn't care cause it matches the helmet.

GTS Supper Notte 300
Hi all,

Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa.

I am taking delivery of a new Notte tomorrow. (my first Vespa)

A mate of mine suggested I consider upgrading the tyres to 13".

Anyone have any strong views/experience with this?

Thank you,
Anton

Go find and ride some nice twisty roads, if your concern is for the way it handles, before looking for 13 inch rims. The 12 inch do the job. As far as pot holes and poor roads, I don't thing the 13 inch will make much difference.

Black on black color scheme is impressive.
I agree with your choice of smoked lenses.
You can do them with film.

(You need to paint the belt drive cover black though...
and if you fit a front rack, get it in black too!)

Howzit Anton !

I wouldn't even think of changing rims+tyres yet.
First get used to the Vespa as she is ex-factory.
Like having a new lady in your life, there is plenty of time to look for farkles* !

I used to think my BMW R80 was my best ride.
Then I bought a 1200GS and had the greatest fun ever.
Now I ride a Vespa GTS300ie - by choice!

(*farkle = Fancy Accessory, Really Kool, Likely Expensive)

Totally agree about the belt drive cover. Seems weird to me that they blacked out everything else but that. I guess they wanted to leave something for the owner to "mod" so we'd feel like we did something!

main thing I like (visually) about the HPE GTS is the new tranny case, so I like it unblacked
