I replaced my ignition cylinder today on my 2006 lx50. Snapped the leg shield back in place. Screwed in the screws, put the door back on and snapped it shut. Nothing happens when I push in the lock. I must have misaligned something so itís not pushing on the lever. Iíve tried all kinds of combinations of pressing, prying and praying and canít get it to unlatch. Is there some way to do this or do I have to break it off at the hinges next time I need to get to the leg shield screws??? TIA

Ok, I got it open from the front. I've tried to re-seat the knee guard panel a few times and can't get the lock cylinder to push back far enough to engage the release. It is an upsidedown "L" shaped silver metal bar and it is about 1 cm away from the cylinder. There is no way to adjust the bar or the cylinder so they meet. Is there supposed to be a piece of something in there between them that I may have lost or anything else I may be missing? At least now I can get into it to do repairs even if the door doesn't function as usable storage.

Glad you got it open. We are in the halfway now...

In the same thread, I linked: Ē...there is a small lever behind the latch. When installing the leg shield with the glove box this lever needs to be vertical. If it is horizontal the key cylinder does not push open the latch.Ē

There was also this: Ē ...there was a rubber band fitted at the factory to enable the easy fitment of the legshield - and whenever the legshield is taken off a new rubber band has to be used.Ē

My guess is that your latch is in horizontal position and missing the rubber band keeping it in vertical position.

Just a bit further and it will be done....

I have a different model. The LX doesnít have the pivoting trigger or use the rubber band method. Iíll take some pics next time Iím in there but it is a solid ďLĒ shaped silver bar and a spring. It doesnít move far enough forward to meet the lock cylinder even if I try to push it that way.

In this second thread there is hopefully some guidance and good picture on that rubber band.

Glove compartment stuck on GT 60 or GTV 250/300

I hope this helps you figuring out the problem.

OK. Then the second link will not help you. Maybe your picture will help to work this out.

This is a still I captured from a scooter west video. The bar is attached to the back of the leg shield.

You know, I just can`t figure this out. Mechanism looks idiot proof.

If the lock cylinder is same length as the original, what comes into my mind is:
- the L shape lever has bent somehow
- the hinges of the glovebox cover are not aligned
- the whole kneeguard will not settle properly

I have never seen this type of design before.
