Question for you knowledgeable people out there, especially of the most modern scooters. My 2018 Piaggio Liberty had the first service (oil change, adjust valve clearance) done at only 220 miles instead of at 600 miles.
Since it was done so early, should I not wait till the next service interval for these two tasks? Per manual, next time is at 6,200 miles and there is no "or x months" provision anymore, only miles (except for brake fluid). Of course changing oil is easy but don't want to do valve adjustment unless actually necessary.

early is better than later.

you'll be fine for your next service at 6000 mile mark. And there again if you do it early at say 5500 miles it will be just fine.

now if you wait till say 7500 miles the oil loses its protective properties, thus hurting the engine and causing premature wear.

I would think shifting into the normal 6,000 mile intervals now would be fine. In my opinion, the one exception is oil changes which should be done annually if you don't exceed 6,000 miles in a year (and the 2 year interval for changing the brake fluid as you note).

You might want to consider a service at 800 to 1000 miles as I would think the first service includes checking all the fasteners for tightness.

All the above posts are fine - if you are just talking about oil. I would check the valves again, though. Maybe around 800 miles.

I wouldn't let the oil go 6k miles in an air cooled bike. I would do as Dooglas suggests, unless you go 3000 miles in a year, then that would be how often I would change it.

Thanks everybody. The valves are my main concern. At this point the total miles are still just 1,300.

The consequences of the valves needing adjustment are what? Rough idle, loss of power, reduced fuel economy? It's hard to judge since I'm not familiar with other Piaggio/Vespas that are this new, but if I'm experiencing any issues they must be minor.

Idle sometimes. Sometimes the engine will just quit when it gets hot. If they are loud, that's OK. Better too loose, than too tight.

Main consequences of incorrect valve clearances are engine damage. And yes, it will often idle roughly, could even spit back, may stall more often, less power, less mpg.

Valve checks are easy though. So don't worry about it. Just do it.
