My VBB scooter rebuild is complete and it seems to be running pretty well except for the kickstart. It's a bit sloppy and uneven and does not return well after kicking it.

It seemed okay when I put the cases together, so I'm wondering if this could be clutch related? Even in neutral? At least I've heard in the past this can be an issue.

I didn't rebuild the clutch since I'd done that before and it had low miles on it but it did sit dry on the bench for three months. Pulling the clutch is a lot easier than resplitting the cases.

Not on a VBB, but when my P2 Kickstarter lever wasn't returning by itself, it was because I had a bent kickstart quadrant. I had to disassemble the case and install a new one.

Yep seen this before. I would loosen the case nuts and the kickstart spring would work like it should. Tighten it up and it wouldn't return fully.

Unless thats not your problem and the kickstart lever works like it should. If thats the case I would look at your clutch plates/ springs and make sure everything is tight and holding.
