This is just a little tale I have to tell and I'll try to keep it short.

I neglected to fix my center stand when it was getting stuck halfway as I disengaged it. I thought I would be okay by making sure I would check that it was all the way up before taking off. Last week I forgot to check when I was at the smoke shop two blocks from my house. I took a left turn into traffic and my bike spun like a top. Face hits the windshield some lacerations and a black eye for 2 days. If this would have happened at higher speed I would have died. So everyone if you have a Sticky center stand take care of it right away it'll save your life.

Thanks Miguel I tried to fix it

The scooter, especially the Vespa, has small wheels and the kickstand is the first thing to touch the ground because it is lower down and not just when you make a curve.
The main problem is that when you touch you have less safety space to correct yourself in case of vehicle instability, I mean that the larger the diameter of the wheels, the more chances you will have to keep it standing when for any reason you lose stability.
Let's add that the non-central center of gravity of a Vespa aggravates the situation, I say this because the "Vespa rider" must remember this in order to have a greater safety margin.
It is not a criticism, just advice.
Max ... try to be well and consider it a "little" accident to learn something from for the future. Ciao.

Thanks for the nice reponses. It was so surreal that I initially thought I had hit an oil puddle. It was not until today that I realized what really happened.

I have purchased this magnetic decal to cover up the scratches.

No broken bones etc, so could have been far worse, glad you got away with a few weeks of pain to deal with.
As for the center stand, I make every effort to use some lube on the stand once a year as it helps it from being sticky.
I wonder if you could use something like ACF50 which is used by many for rust prevention if it work as a lubricant as well,

Lithium soap grease is better, it also protects against moisture.

Sorry to hear about this Max and hope you heal quickly. Bummer about the damage to the scoot and you, at least the damage to you isn't that bad.

Do you have to take it apart to lu ricate.it?

I am also wondering if the springs may be no longer good.

Greetings:

You have always replied kindly to my Noob posts, Max. Sorry this happened. See, I told you smoking was bad for you...

I've had bikes and scooters that were 20 years old, never saw a spring go "Bad".

A complete disassembly of the centerstand seems indicated to determine exactly why the thing was hanging up halfway. If there are aluminum spacers anywhere, they tend to corrode into adjacent steel due to Galvanic issues with dissimilar metals. I'd rip the thing completely apart if it were up to me. Just be sure to secure the scooter somehow. Don't want it falling over again.

BTW with the facial injuries, full-face helmet?

rust
Max,
Looks like you have bare metal showing in spots. You should put some touch-up paint on it before the sticker goes on to prevent rust from forming.

I agree. And I plan to do the some to the stand.

Thank you for your kind words. I am back in the pink. The worst was the couple days after and then the swelling just went down.

It took me a couple weeks to get over the shock and fear to ride it again. I'm over it now. Yesterday I took it for a 40-mile ride. The passion is back I had a great time.
