All of my two stroke scooters have a boost port, I look at the piston and make sure the opening in the piston for the boost port faces the boost port. The exhaust side should have to holes in the piston.

beyond the arrow you can look at the locating pins for the rings. Those pins should be opposite the exhaust, and should not intersect any ports.

Put a sharpie mark on the top of the piston where the ring ends/pins are. that will help confirm that everything is as it should be.

The arrow on your piston is really odd, understand the confusion.
