Modern Vespa

Hi, I have a 1979 Special 50 that I just acquired. The horn does not work, and, when I switch to high beam, the headlight goes out. Switch it back to low beam, it works again. I do not have a battery installed. Is it possible these two things are related? If not, any advice on each of these issues would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I bought a whole new switch thingy when that happened to my bike. Nothing worked before and if the lights were on they wouldn't be for long. Now everything works as intended. Idk if you've got the same problem but it sounds similar

There is a good chance the horn is DC and needs the battery for power. Check connections or try connecting the horn to a 6v source to see if it 'sounds'..
The headlight bulb has two filaments in it. The high beam one may be toast.

I'm not familiar with the 50 at all, if the above diagram is correct the horn is dc.

The diagram also shows a high beam indicator. Does yours work? If not it may mean both are burned out, or there another common problem. Start with the easy first and check the bulbs.

As for the horn, pull it and connect it to a battery of the proper voltage and see if it works.
