Modern Vespa

The upper cap (Part #15 in the diagram )is broken on my bike. The threads are toast, so the shock rod just slides through it.

I can't seem to find a replacement at any of the shops.

As a fix, could I:

1. Put a nut under the cap in addition to the one on top and jam them together. That should keep it in place, but I'm not sure it would stay.

2. Tack a nut (weld) onto the inside of the cap with new threads.

is #15 broken or is the nut on top of it stripped out?

It's the nut fastened on top of the cap which is stripped out. I suppose I could dremel it off and weld on a new one.

I'd just weld on a new extended nut. Just make sure to measure how tall that nut is first so that you can cut the new extended nut down to the same length. Another option is to install a really long Time-sert into the stripped out nut. But unless you already have a m8(?) time-sert kit (and the extra long inserts), then buying a new shock would probably cost less. Perhaps someone here on the forum has a dead shock that they can give you that part that you need?
