What's your best guess as to why my best but won't start? When I push the start button there's absolutely no noise whatsoever. No clicking, no attempt to turn over. I do hear the whirring noise for the first second or two after I turn the ignition on. I'd appreciate any help.

Did you check the brake light comes on when you pull in either brake lever? The most common reason for no action from the starter relay is when one or both brake light switches have failed - yes, they do get dirty inside. Very cheap and easy to replace, they are one of those things you should always have as a spare, along with exhaust gasket, spark plug etc.

If not the brake lights then try the kill switch.

And if not the kill switch, maybe put some gas in the tank.

Thanks for your input. Yes, brake lights work. Kill switch is in the correct position.

Could the kill switch be faulty? Any other ideas?

Have you tried the brown master key

I had this problem with mine and it turned out to be a faulty key

Cheers

Next step - what does the red Code LED on the dashboard do? The number and timing of flashes is important, and whether the LED then goes off or stays on.

When I turn the key to the "on" position, the red LED light blinks once for maybe 1 second. Then a pause, then 2 more shorter blinks (so three blinks total). Then the red LED light turns on and stays on.

You have a dodgy aerial or connection between the aerial and the ECU.

Read all about it in the workshop manual (the GTS is the same as the GTV for this):

So helpful. Thanks! Vespa started with original brown key. My other key must be damaged. Greg

Get some new keys ASAP. My scoots came with the master key and a blue key. I bought some blanks, had them cut at Ace Hardware and then programmed them. I bought 2 extras for each scoot and keep one with the master in a safe.
