I think it would be cool if Matt Gordon or Randy Turk could write an article on how to lengthen and loop the hose to avoid blow-by into the air filter. I've seen Matt's modification, and it's simple and highly effective, and knowing Matt, I know he has pictures.
Could be a separate article linked to the original faq page. |

Very fine!
Any thoughts on what to do later when those plastic bubbles fall off and are lost? |

I was using little balloons, but that looks really dumb (kinda like mini-versions of an item that I wouldn't mention here) I try to ride all winter so I'm worried about whether dirt & salty water are going to cause problems if they get up in there? If it's important, I don't mind looking foolish |

I was reading about the bubble thingie. Any special tips on how to properly remove and re-install it, or is this a very obvious thing, even to a clutz

Oil Filter Bubble (See Your Dealer)
I'm thinking of just looping it back to the other one on a GT 200. You can get several feet of tubing for what they want on line these days...that is a pet peeve, what some of these people want out there for this, ridiculous doesn't even come close. Seeing my dealer is not an option, unless I travel several hundred miles round trip. I've seen Mercedes parts cheaper by comparison.

I just noticed that the front bubble is filled with clear liquid (I didn't remove yet to see [smell?] what was in there because I was waxing the bike at the time and its really hot right now.) Does it mean anything different from the back bubble being filled with oil?

Well there was that time I tried to re-create the Vietnam episode from Top Gear...
I was thinking about it and I forgot that when we had got together at our last tech day here, I cleaned out the engine compartment so maybe water could have gotten in then. |

It seems this article suggests that there is a fuel overflow connection between the US Evap system and the air filter. This is not the case. Article edited accordingly.
