EGADS it looks like another scooter baron maybe. Some one else has that cover thing. I bet a good crosswind and you'd be airborne Para-scootering Just my personal opinion but they are certainly trying to ruin a perfectly good scooter with that contraption on it. If i was the MP3 i wouldn't start just so i wouldn't have to be seen in public with that on my head

Maybe they can do a remake of the movie Quadrophenia and drive this one off the cliff?

A electric roof so you can drive "open"

It's ugly as sin and I wonder how much protection it would offer in a rainstorm with gusty winds.

I'm in Germany this week and saw something similar buzz by in the opposite direction on my way to the office.

I got only a glimps. Maybe it was the BMW thing I saw a few weeks back in MV.

Why not buy a convertible car?

The car might be less money!

It's so ugly its cool...and i think it has been done before.

the roof is a silly idea....

but show me the wagon....i have a pav40 trailer for my stella and i would jump on a trailer for my soon to be here mp3 500....give me a nice black one

You know, chop the roof off and alter the rear of the seat, and you would have a pretty nice looking modern scooter! I'd love to have a BMW scooter - just not the C1

I want to see a spinoff scooter schism between the Roof and Roofless modern scooter owners! You guys can get all high and mighty during the scooter limbo competition at rallies ..., or joke that at least you don't need a step-stool to clean the birdshit off your bike.

Yes I think thats it the C1 was soo popular they were only able to sell 15,000 I think.

One interesting thing is that the c1 was terrible at low speed b/c it was so top heavy. The mp3 can lock upright which will help.
At least the c1 had a real roll cage and a windshield wiper. I swear sometimes Piaggio has their heads in the sand.

Come-on! It's not THAT bad. It actually looks pretty functional, kind of like a pocket protector or one of those squeezy coin-holders.

If you can still get most of the benefits of a car (easy parking, less pollution, better gas milage, less traffic on the roads) then maybe this will get somebody out of their car and be a "gateway" scooter for them. In all honesty, it looks a lot like a SmartCar. And I'm all for bluring the lines between motorcycles and cars because that may be the only way to get the U.S. public out of their oversized cages.

Look at it like one of those evolution progressions:
Lumbering SUV > crossover SUV > luxury sedan > compact car > Mini Cooper > SmartCar > MP3 500 with a cover

Looks like the BMW has a windshield wiper and the MP3 doesn't. Wouldn't you need one?

Wow, could they make the MP3 look any less cool? It is a great bike to ride but it now looks like one of those mobility scooters for the elderly.

I thought that I had seen another scooter that sort of resembled the C1, and now the MP3. Then I remembered the Diamo Velux - the convertible of scooters.

I think you can wait for a long time. As far as I know there wont be a 500.

It's not even mentioned in the latest press releases.

There is well a Piaggio Beverly 500, the "Cruiser" and a Beverly 400, the "Tourer"

Maybe they save that engine for the more sporty Gilera Fuocco?

the gilera fuoco is coming to the states as the mp3 500...i have a deposit down and they should be here in jan or feb...or march

they already have one for sale in canada...but the mass shipment isn't for a couple of months...

I see these Goldwingers with more accessories than an average luxury car and more power than an average economy car and more weight than some subcompacts! Theres a pivotal point and thats way past it.

Boy, if the Harley crowd didn't already look down at scooterists! Slap a roof on an MP3 and reach a whole new "low" in their eyes.

I like the MP3 concept (w/o the roof) but could they change the looks so it doesn't look like a Pokemon character?


MP3 vs Venonat

Y'all (well, most of you) are applying a rather narrow US perspective to this.

Lots of people outside the US ride scooters all year round, in the rain and snow and ice, because they have to. They don't have cars, and cars can't split lanes. That's the market the MP3 was made for. The MP3 was never supposed to be "high-style" to begin with -- it's supposed to be a more practical scooter. The roof is in keeping with that.

Would I fit one to my MP3? Probably not. That doesn't mean it deserves to be judged solely based on style, or lack thereof.

Today I was almost mown down in the kitchen cleaner section of the supermarket by a mobility scooter, ridden by an old crone wearing a cowboy hat.

She looked quite cool in a "rebel without a cause" way.

Back on topic - the roof looks silly, but perhaps I would change my mind about it if were tipping down and I had a long ride home.

It looks like a surry (it now needs 'fringe on top"!)

How much protection are you getting from that anyway. The rain in MN doesn't come straight down and the wind has ways of going around the windshield.

Harnadem thanks i knew it was another scooter. First thought was baron but you nailed it. Still don't think it would keep out much rain in any country. Sides being open your still going to get hit . Buy what you want and enjoy it that's all that really matters anyway

we are getting a re-badged Gilera Fuoco as a 500cc MP3.

According to our dealership here in San Antonio, the mp3 500 should be here in February. I'm hoping that is still true - that is the size my hubby needs...
