The materials have arrived and it's time to start making the mounting brackets for my 3 gallon fuel cell. It's going to sit vertically on the floorboards of the SYM HD200.

Looks like a good start you've got.

I've recently started on a long range tank. Holds a little over 2.25 gallons. I've got no purpose in doing this other than just wanting to tinker on something. Dunno how far I'm going to take it but I definitely planning on finishing at least this one. Fuel pump is here, waiting on the fuel cap in the mail.

Got some of the bits cut and bent today. The first strap was a little two narrow after bending but the second fits perfect.

Hey VP1, what pump are you running? I'm going to try a diaphragm pump running off a vacuum line first. If that fails I'll go electric.

Hey Patrick, here is what I'm using http://www.mr-gasket.com/ProductDetails.aspx?brandID=1&productID=11377978&txtSearch=micro%20fuel%20pump
Nice and pretty small which is good as there isn't much room. I'm mounting it upside down, in between the shocks.
cheers, Todd

I had a very similar idea... but it was going to run horizontally, but I realized it'd cut off access to my battery.

that looks pretty cool so far dude.

The frame for the fuel cell is all welded up. Next step is fitting it to the mounting brackets.

What, I cut the thing out with a hacksaw, bend it on the edge of my workbench, shape it with a hand file, and you don't think I can weld it with matches?

ok, had Weiss Welding (Folsom St between 8th and 9th st.) do it. Their work is incredible but they are a bit spendy.

I am sure I have seen an add-on fuel tank for Scooters that goes between your knees (same as a motorcycle, in effect). I have googled a few search queries but found nothing - very annoying.

From memory, it filled the space with fuel and storage space - just wish I could find the article / picture. Looked interesting, but you would lose the step-thru facility that makes scoots so convenient.

Will keep searching . . . . .

Got the frame trimmed to fit and all the brackets cut and marked. Tomorrow I'll take it down to get the rest of the welding done.

Here's the frame mostly finished and in position on the scoot. I need to trim the lower mount points a bit and drill the holes for the lower mounts still. Also need to finish the straps that go around the tank and will bolt to the tabs sticking out from the back of the frame.

Have you ever seen the infomercials with the propane torch aluminum welding rods? It might come in handy for a DIY project like this.

Done
Finished plumbing the tank this weekend. Tested it out with a gallon of fuel in the front tank. Only took a few minutes to pump it to the stock tank.

The front tank holds 3 gallons, the stock holds 2, for 5 total. Maximum range 340 miles.

Nice work, Patrick.

I just finished the mount for my Plan B gas tank, but don't have it plumbed yet. Going from AN-6 to 1/4" hose is harder than you'd think.

A couple, although they're low-quality and badly compressed.

It was done in Ashlar Argon

It was in my budget for the unstealth and I keep using it for just about everything.

Here's the fuel pump bracket I made. Desided to use an electric fuel pump and only turn it on as needed to move fuel from the lower tank to the top tank.
