I am a new GTS 250 owner. I read somewhere that owners have reported getting gas milage in the 70mpg range. Is this true? I have only put on 300 miles but so far have only averaged 58mpg. Is that low?

I bet your mileage goes up as you break in your motor. I got 71.1 on open road last weekend. Around town, I'm only getting about 60, though.

I have been anywhere from 55 to 68 mpg depending on the type of riding I have been doing.

Im still happy with that kind of milage! Better than my car at 27mpg and my truck at about 12mpg!

Don't fret too much about the mileage, So long as you're getting higher SPM than your car.

At about 700 miles now, and I've always gotten right around 70 MPG on my GTS. It usually gets gas at about 120 miles, and it seems to always take about 1.75 gallons to fill.

mileage
I weigh 225. 1200 miles on the odometer. Averaging 68MPG. You may see an increase in MPGs as the engine breaks in. A lot also depends on how aggressively you ride and the terrain.

Congratulations on getting a new GTS.

That sounds a little low, roughly 53 miles per gallon. I think.

I almost wish I didnt know that!!
I've just checked a receipt (6.7l) so thats a bit better. When its all commuting I nearly get 200k's (but never quite able to hit it) If I'm going out for a good ride she usually get a good opening up...
Still on my V Twin Firestorm I only got about 160k's...
Then there is the 4WD (V8 petrol) cost's us about $100 and gives about 300 k's (unless on a run)

My GTS 250 now has over 1000 miles. My gas mileage is much better than I anticipated based on my research. I bought the scooter expecting to get approximately 65 MPG. Instead I am averaging in the upper 70's. My last two tanks came out at 76 and 86 respectively.

My scoot is all stock with a milk crate rear case. I have had my 600 mile service and have had the exhaust recall repair made. I weigh approximately 170lbs and drive mostly local, stop and go driving. I do not race off the line and cruising speeds tend to vary between 35 - 55 with an average of approximately 45/50. I ride it like a scooter, not a motorcycle.

My lowest gas mileage has been 72 and the highest 86. Just wanted to share my experiences for those who are researching such things.

I've only put about 150 miles on my GTS since I picked it up 2 weeks ago. All stop-and-go in-town riding. At the first fill-up, I'd gotten 100 miles on 1.5 gal, for 68mpg give or take a few teaspoons.

I just filled up today and calculated the mpg at 71.2. I weigh about 180 and have been riding around town, no real highway time on this last tank of gas.

I've been around 65 MPG but made it over 70 MPG after the 600 mile break-in period. I'm not a WOT rider in town (most of my driving) so that might make a difference however out in the country roads I like to get some of the carbon off

So far my wife and I have put around 400 to 500 miles on each of our GTS 250s, so they aren't out of the break-in period yet. Having said that, we are getting between 70 to 75 mpg on both our scooters. Another thing to be aware of is that your get a slight boost in the mileage if you have a windscreen. Both of ours have the Vespa mid-sized screen.

I got 68 mpg at my first fill-up (95 octane unleaded), city driving only. After two fill-ups I chose 98 octane gas instead, and I got 82 mpg, but this was on a longer trip in quite constant moderate speed. But I am quite sure there is a difference between 95 and 98 octane when it comes to mileage. My last fill-up with 98 octane gave 75 mpg (for europeans this is 0,31 liters per 10 km). Hope I got the numbers right, as we dont use miles nor gallons over here...

Has anyone else noticed a difference with various octane levels?

I've got a GTV (same running gear as the GTS) with just under 3000 miles on it. I've averaged 80.121 MPG overall, with varations between 76.76 MPG and 83.02 MPG depending on how much freeway riding I do. I check mileage at every fill-up, by the way.

I have a bit over 1,200 miles on my GTS; even before the break-in period I was getting 70mpg, now I'm consistently averaging 73 mpg.

Yay!

I started with 68mpg and at today's fill up (at 1290 miles) i got 77mpg.
My mpg has been consistently improving.

Although after the first couple tanks I added the flyscreen which i hear helps with mpg.

I started out getting 64. It improved steadily as the engine broke in. With 2200 miles now on the clock, I'm averaging 72.6. Best single-tank mileage I ever got was 82.9. Bike is straight stock; I weigh 190.

The gas mileage on the GTS does get better with break in. I started off getting about 65 mpg and now I'm at about 75 mpg. Some of that could be an improvement in aerodynamics when I cut the tall windshield down to 17 inches. I weigh around 150 lbs and ride at about 65-70 mph into Baltimore for a commute.

cheers, Jim

Low fuel light came on today at 136 miles, with two bars left.
Filled the tank with 1.714 gallons of premium.

That is 79.35 mpg - WOOT! A new record for my scoot.

I am amazed at the performance and economy of the GTS.

I have 1000 miles on the scoot, the most I ever got per gallon was 64.

I dont think there's anything wrong with the bike, I never ride it hard or even come close to full throttle.

I live in NYC, almost all these mies were done in Manhattan. so I can expect lower gas mileage during the break-in period I used to get between 42 - 47 mpg, and now I think I am around the 52-55.

Never paid it much thought maybe I should.

I have filled up 8 times so far. After reading posts on fuel grades I have been purchasing my “high test” from stations that have a dedicated hose so as not to dilute the fuel. The fuel light usually comes on when the gauge has 2 bars, by the time I reach the station I have one bar left. I fill up to about 1- 1/2” from the top and the amounts vary from 1.816G to 1.898G. My mileage has been from 70.1 to 74.9 and has averaged out to 72.5MPG. Today I checked my speed with our GPS and discovered that I am running about 10% high on the speedometer. That seems common based on posts I have read on the subject. This will certainly lower the MPG.
Although it may seem that I am being a fuel miser I too enjoy making the 10 mile run back to the store for something I “forgot”. I started out looking at scooters in general but admired Vespa’s from the start. My wife says I am obsessed with the GTS.

May we see a photo? And more windshield opinions and comments? Several of us are still thinking through the flyscreen vs, windscreen vs no screen options. Perhpas add it to one of the windshield discussions if need be. Thanks
