I saw this on WebBike World, it is pricy, but another nice and secure mount for the GPS.

Been there, done that, way back on February 13 in this topic thread.
Quote:
The StreetPilot i2 GPS base couples with it's suction cup mount by means of a 21/32 inch ball. The ball just snaps into the GPS base socket. I was thinking of cannibalizing a mirror, to see what size ball was underneath the mirror socket. Wouldn't it be great if it was 21/32 inch? I would be able to snap-on the StreetPilot i2 GPS base, directly onto the stalk, affording a very secure and functional mount.

I know about the previouse thread in Feb, I bought a couple of i2's from West Marine way back then. The link I posted above is for a mount that I have never seen before and was just reviewed by the folks at WebBike World. I have been using the suction cup mount for sometime, but it is attached to my windscreen. I have been looking for a mount to attach to the mirror stems, this is the one for that. It will be more secure and the maker can custom build a mount for anyones needs. Thanks.

That's all understood, Brian. I was only commenting that I thought of a similar arrangement back in February.
I did try my mirror stalk approach, but it didn't work-out due to excessive vibration. I subsequently had a stubby ball-end stalk custom machined, which also screwed into the right-hand mirror receiver. That was better, but it was not in my natural line-of-sight, and still had some vibration issues. I finally settled on permanently affixing the GPS's included mounting plate to my ET4's head stock. Now it's in my direct line-of-sight, and vibrates less, due to it's position directly over the steering head.

That looks great. I have been using the suction cup mount on the windscreen, it works well and does'nt vibrate too much on smooth roads. But I would like to try something else, Thanks for the info about the mirror mounts. I will keep looking for a secure way to attach the GPS.

I'll send you a PM Brian, when I locate my custom-machined stubby ball mount. It's somewhere in the garage, but we're staining the cedar shakes, preparing the sailboat, and moving stuff around to get at the bicycles and kayak. It's a complete mess in there.
When I come across it, it's yours.
Update: After the report of a failed Garmin mount (another thread), I'll be keeping my custom-machined stubby ball mount. I can easily modify it into a handlebar clamp mount, by adding a C-clamp strap at it's base. It may be useful on the motorcycle.
