I've been fiddling with tracking registered vs. guest users, specifically the number of pages that are served to each group. It turns out that guest users account for solidly 1/3rd of our overall number of served pages. That's much more than I could have guessed.

For what it's worth, those statistics could be skewed by registered users who are not logged in, and thus appear as guests.

The question, though, is who the heck are all these people? We're talking thousands and thousands of pages per day.

I hope that at least one of them works for Vespa USA.

Are they definitely people and not 'bots or spiders, etc.? Could it be from people outside the forum are linking to images hosted here?
Don't know if it's possible, but is there a way to match guests to pages viewed or thier IPs?

Don't know. It's hard to believe that bots would make up anywhere near 1/3rd of the traffic, though.

Nope -- images wouldn't show up in the statistics. It has to be an actual page, with the logo at the top.

I do the same thing as well. I just keep lurking around in the dark corners until I decide to bark. Laughing emoticon

Bots can make up quite a lot of the traffic, just depends on how many pages you have (they will read all of them if they can) and how much main traffic you are talking about.

Your tracking software may give you the option to filter out bot traffic.

The other thing to look at is how many people are just looking at one page as you may get lots of single page view visits if you are well ranked in Google.

Charles.

So how do you know what posts are new? I guess I am an MV addict and MUST read every post.

I also log in a couple of times a day (usually, over morning coffee, lunch coffee, afternoon coffee) and read the new posts. Perhaps too much checking and too much coffee!

It would be nice if we could see the thread start date on the forum index, in addition to the date of the most recent posting. But if not, then that's okay, too!

That's a useful tweak. I'll look into whether it's possible.
