... Paint job....Ouch. 8)
This bike shows up on Craigslist every few weeks, can't help but think that a decent paint job would help it finally sell.
Enjoy.

I'm not really for "theme" paint jobs, but I think the paint job would have been better if it didn't have the "brick" pattern in the background. I'm all for the UK and Doc Martens.

Just too much with the Union Jack and/or the bricks the way I do math.
I was trying to remember that quote someone made recently about too many mods, it certainly applies here to custom paint... Quote: one modification too many, and suddenly it's not *a* scoot, but *your* scoot, signed and sealed. |

The quote you provided holds merit. For resale value, yeah...the guy should paint it or lower the price so that it will appeal to "everyone" instead of just "somebody".
However, I stated that I like the paint job minus the "brick" stuff....then you gave me the quote and said you are not trying to be snarky about the origional post. yeah OK. A scoot is *a* scoot no matter what color it's painted or what kind of crazy mod/chopped or whatever. Obviously this becomes *your* scoot because you did the mod/paint/whatever without giving a fuck about what other people will think of it. Just because YOU don't like it doesn't mean that I, or anyone here will not like it. |

No comment for/against the paint job, but iirc this bike was one of a series of bikes commissioned by DM for a campaign. So there's some history to why it looks like that.
I think Andrea/SO knows more on the history of the DM bikes. |

1) I kinda like that paint job
2) Scooters Originali did all those bikes for DM, i believe. They did a bunch of them ... and you'll see them pop up on occasion because there's more than one. One of them has boot prints all over it, and is all oxblood ( not sure if that's one of the Scooters Originali ones, or if some other dude just did another DM theme bike ). That one was awesome. |

woah, looks like some feathers are flying about my "*a* scoot vs *your* scoot" comment.
unique/crappy/wicked paint jobs are sort of on the lower rung of what i'm talking about. that brick and union jack stuff is pretty mild, and isn't anything that $20 worth of krylon wouldn't fix, esp if they wanted to widen their shopping audience. me? if i were in the market, that paint job wouldn't deter me. until a full restoration was in order, i'd just live with it, or spraypaint it over. chopping is what i'm talking about. bye bye, value. 'member that raffled green thing? you'll never see it again. it's gonna rot in someone's garage for years, unregisterable, unridable, and ultimately, unsellable. a bike that's not ridden, is a bike that's not supporting the parts market. heavy engine mods where the oem stuff is lost, too, is what i'm talking about. sorry i keep harping on the issue. it's something i feel very strongly about. i seen the exact same shit happen in the mustang world. and unfortunately, piaggio and innocenti didn't sell 600,000 units a year like ford did. |

here's a good example....anyone in the bay area remember that insanely chromed, modded, mirrored, tassled, 100% raped rally for sale on craigslist a year or so ago? the dude bought into the mod stuff hook, line, and sinker, and his bike wouldn't sell. he had it posted for like $4k...for MONTHS. wouldn't come down on price. his bike was a frankenbeast from a bygone era and nobody would touch it.
THAT'S "*your* bike". |

the purpose of the quote is that with every modification that isnt removable and/or average, you close down a certain section of the market. the scoot technically is yours until you sell it. so with more mods comes a higher likelyhood that it STAYS yours for longer. considering the average consumer would probably have that repainted, not because its the wrong color but because its so out there in style, he has a limited range of interest.
Its kinda neat though... has history to it. Not just, "oh i resprayed it last spring to my favorite color." favorite colors are great and all but what he has here is not just someones theme bike but a part of history. well at least doc martin history. he pitched that bike to me in an email at the same price a few months ago before i got my p200. saw my classified on scoot.net. i say chop about 1k outta the price and its sold. |
