Any advice on how to get my Vespa GT200 started after I laid it down gently in the mud (on grass). No damage or injury but now it won't start.

Any help would be appreciated.

Check the above thread. A common issue, if you've laid down the back and fuel gets into the evap hose, after it's been laid down.

WIll let others, reconfirm, but that's what I recall.

best of luck.

Pop off the air filter, squeeze the gasoline out of it and re-oil it, then try again. Pretty common problem from reports on here, never happened to me, but a search will probably bring up this same advice.

cheers

Thanks. Will try that if all doesn't settle. I was also told that after this happens it will take a long time (2 hrs) for the gas to evap. Then you have to really gas it hard to restart it.

Thanks. I found the vent tube but was reluctant to pull it off. I'll let the whole thing settle down first then try it again later.

I've added this thread to the Wiki

This could use some polishing, if anyone's interested

Cleaning your sparkplug would be a good idea to. It will make it easier to start after you deal with the evap system.

And check that you've not accidentally tripped the kill switch. I know it sounds lame, but it's easy to do

Thanks you're right. I checked that when I first tried to start it. Good suggestion.

Another one that had me going once on a friend's bike that was dropped on 'grass' - the wires had been pulled off the side-stand switch.

Where is the side stand? I'm kinda new to this bike. I do have electric when I start. It just turns over and won't catch? Thanks.

If it turns over it isn't the side-stand (if you have one!) or the kill-switch. If the immobiliser LED goes out then it's not an ECU issue, so it's most likely to be the evap issue as the others have said. I know eff-all about that as we don't have those here.

Yes. I've had it "drying out" now for about 4 hours. I'm going to give it a try and gunn the engine on start-up as someone else told me to force air into the system. Hopefully, it'll give me a ride home from work today. I'll let you know.

Razz emoticon

GT200s don't have side-stands. Just center stands. We do have the evap issue.

Good luck!

Guess I'm in luck. Hopefully it will start after a long 5 hour dry-out....

Last time I try to drive it in muddy grass... LOL

They come with sidestands in other markets? (I know you can add them)

Or, only the US market has the evap issue, because the evap return is a US environmental requirement?

If it won't start I might try pulling the evap return hose and letting it air out. Maybe that will help.

Thanks.

Fixed
I took off the air filter and got all the gas out of it. Let it dry and now it starts. Thanks for all of the help.
