I am new to group and I am really close to buying a scooter, and went to the Vespa dealer yesterday. The salesman quoted me $6,192 for the GT 200 out the door.

The MSRP says $5,199. This is practically $1000 over MSRP. This seemed a little high to me. Does this quote seem right? This was of course including tax and miscellaneous dealer fees. I just don't want to be ripped off since they're the only Vespa dealer around town.

Also, the salesman said the GT 200 does not come in black. The Vespa
website and other websites I looked at say they do? Any insight on
this? Does anyone own an '06 Black GT 200? I figured they might have discontinued them until the '07s come out??

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Buy a GTS as they do come in Black. The price also depends on your local taxes. Can you break down that $1000 for us? Setup? Shipping? Tax? Reg?

Unfortunately, no, I can't break down the $1,000. I just asked the guy what the price would be including taxes and he quoted me $6192 to walk out the door with the scooter. Maybe next time I will ask to have him itemize the fees. I think tax is only 6.5% in Ohio.

I noticed they had the GTS in black at the shop. Is it worth the extra money to get that model than the GT 200?

I think so. The GT200 came out in 2004 and the GTS came out in 2006. Don't get me wrong, the GT ain't bad, the GTS just has more oomph/get up and go. It isn't a lot faster but it does handle the hills better.

Our dealer here sells GT 200 scoots for $5499 out the door, which includes $300 dealer prep. You then pay the sales tax of 8% or so when you buy your $3.00 motor scooter license tag at the DMV, along with a small amount for a title fee.

Yeah, I called the dealer today, and it broke down like that. Makes sense now. Plus, the county I live in has 6.75% sales tax. So that 's about totals the quote he gave me. I think he said the GTS would be $400-$500 more on top of that, and from what I read, I might just go with the GTS. Don't know if I like the digital display, but I guess I can live with it.

Thanks for everyone's input.[/quote]
