I emailed you with the following concerns :
1) They didn't do trapezoidal headsets on sprints past 1969. ( at least, none that i'm aware of ) 2) It has a weirdo front fender crest and a st. christopher badge on it. These might be legit accessories, or they might be viet crap. They LOOK like greyed aluminum... which might mean they're old and the real deal. Most of the viet crap is chromed these days. 3) The seat is weird ...looks like it's low and flat in the pic 4) the glovebox trim. But, really, it doesn't look terribly suspect. I think going and having a closer look would let you know of the quality of paint and such. I always find that checking around the gas tank opening is a good indication of how well the paint was applied. If it's bubbling up around the gas cap, it's a shitty paint job. Floorboards in between the rails and along the welded seams are another spot that shows damage quickly if the paint job wasn't good. I just noticed it has the handlebar covers under the headset still there. That's pretty impressive and a decent indication it's NOT asian. The brake pedal looks weird though, from the pic. As does the centermat area. |

Birdsnest wrote: Wonder? What is that silver badge-thingy on the left side of leg shield.... I have a giant tattoo of one on my shoulder. It was a big thing in the 50's and 60's to have statue of St. Christopher or a badge or placard attached to whatever vehicle you were driving in. He's the patron saint of safe travels, among other things, and to have him on your vehicle was supposed to keep you safe on the road. There were some pretty expensive mod accessories with St. Christopher on them. Do a worldwide ebay search for "Ulma St Christopher" and you'll see what i mean. |

I have a sprint v, and I think that the trap headlights are odd loking, but that shouldn't stop you from inquiring further on this one.
I can't tell, but also check out the pipe to see if it is stock or a performance add on. If you do get to see it in person, hold the front brake and push hard to the front and down to see how the suspension there is. Mine sucked, but it is fixable. That dive, when braking, takes getting used to, and is perhaps the worst thing about this and similar models. That seat is just wrong, and do ask about that weird foot brake lever, maybe its a shadow in the pic? |

Birdsnest wrote: Yummy. Sprint V with the Trap Headlight.... very tasty. An ex-girlfriend had a '68 sprint with a trap headset ( i was always under the impression the '67-'69 or '70 sprints had trap headsets, and then went round. ). My buddy has a 1971 Sprint w/round headset. Both were original to the bikes. |

It doesn't look bodge to me at all. It's not OG, and you can tell the guy has placed his own personal touches to the scoot. Only in Europe was the Trapezoid headlight was used. Sprints that were sent to the US markets had the round headlight. I think the US markets at the time required a seal beam headlight and this is why they went with the round ones.

On a side note, I was thinking about the original colors that Sprints came in during the late 60's??

I am familar with St Christopher... I couldn't make out that the badge was a St Chris due to the low res though. (Of course I thought the old biker custom was not to affix a St Christopher unless you had wrecked the bike?) Anyway...
I thought Euro Spec Sprints had the Trap until 1970, but that plenty of 71's still had them as well, kind of a transitional year thing? Still, listing says 76 and that does make it a head scratcher. I'd be interested to see what the serial numbers say. I know my old bud Lynn Anne looked at a "84" P (serial numbers later showed it was an 81), someone somewhere just goofed on the title. I'm not at all saying that's the case here... just sayin'... |

Any idea what color would get close to the Silvery grey? I also think they came with the grey color grips as well. I also want to go with a full seat. I don't think they came with a full seat option in 68? |

It looks like this. It's common enough that you can probably find a part out there with the original paint and have it scanned. I'm a big fan of that color, though.
Additionally, i have a bench seat that would have been a period 60's accessory for a VBB / VNB or a sprint. I had it blasted and powdercoated ...and i still have the bulk of the original seat cover for it. It's not really in usable condition, but you could send it off and have pirate upholstery make you a cover based on it's dimensions. It's quite a nice bench seat. I was actually saving it to use for one of my own nicer projects, but i'd consider selling it. |

ebay UK is a good source for mod type automotive badges. I did a scottish theme on my px and found both a scottish auto club and st. christopher with scottish flag. Mini mod designs is another fun place to shop.

Of course for non-religious types, there's always the possibility of appealing to a secular icon for protection on your Sprint leg shields... say Dave Brubeck, patron saint of unusual time signatures:

To this scooter rider, St. Christophers is about nostolgia and my youth. Tho I could Take Five, any time... I knew a guy with an old Enfield 500 sporting a "pedestrian slicer" with the word Jango on it. Really. R

Hansome? I guess so I would think most ladies say it was true. No accounting for womens tastes. Other wise the race would have died out thousands and thousands of generations ago. R
