I'm just curious, since I've been thinking about waiting and saving more to get a Vespa S150...again

But, how many times have you dropped your Vespa?

So...you've NEVER fallen off either one of your Vespas while riding?

Just once. Didn't actually touch the ground, so I was lucky. Damn near gave me a heart attack when it happened, though.

Parked it on the sidewalk in front of Sportique after getting there early to meet up for a ride. I somehow managed to get the center stand exactly on top of a seam between two slabs of concrete, and it fell off balance. The little chrome basket I have zip-tied to the rear rack caught on a broken piece of the chain-link fence, and held the entire scoot up off the ground. It was off balance enough that it took me a couple minutes to get it back up, during which I managed to twist my knee wrong. I figure that was my punishment for not looking carefully enough under the bike before parking. I thank Sportique for not fixing their fence perfectly. I'm small enough and my arms are weak enough from surgeries that it was very hard to get that GTV back up.

I am now extremely picky about the few small spaces of ground that I let my center stand rest on. And I have a very strong faith in the strength of zip-ties.

Once, hit oil while braking at a stop light.

Once...
While I was learning. The driving instructor was showing me how to brake. I managed to lock the wheels. I was only doing 30 km/ph. Scraped my knees a bit...My vespa was luckier, it barely got a scratch.

Thanks for the replies!

I was thinking that maybe it would be best to start off on a plastic-bodied scoot since a Vespa will be dropped (at least once) if it was in my hands...

...even though I am planning to pamper it all to hell, if I get one.

Dropped my old LX150 twice...well..actually crashed it twice.

1st time: I was stuck in traffic, so I decided to go on the grass to pass. I was going really slow. I came up to the end of the grass and saw a large drop from the curb back onto the asphalt of the road. The grass was wet, so when I braked, my front tire slipped and I went down on the grass. It was embarrassing

2nd time: I tried to pass on the shoulder at an intersection. The car to my left turned into me. Minor bumps and bruises. The scooter stayed upright and so did I, but the dealership said the scoot was totaled.

I haven't dropped my S150 yet. I'm being super careful. Though going over the Pali last night in the rain with just a t-shirt and shorts was pretty careless..damn was it fun.

We always suggest to our new buyers that they are ON the scooter when they rock it off the c/s, then this wouldn't of happened. Just something to ponder.

I almost dropped the scoot once, when making a right-angle turn into a (very skinny) motorcycle parking spot at about 3mph. My Spidey-sense went off, though, and I stuck out a leg and caught it before anything more than the steel ring on the bottom hit the ground.

There was another time, during the first week I had it, when I over-cranked the throttle and almost drove it straight into a parked car...outside of a motorcycle shop...that basically only sells Ninjas, Gixxers and Hayabusas. They laughed, a lot.

Oh well. So, to answer the question, I haven't actually dropped it "for real" yet.

Yay!

Plastic scoots break. Vespas dent. Dents pound out, broken plastic doesn't mend itself.

Yah, but you can buy new plastic parts easier and cheaper than it costs to pound out dents.

Twice. (1) lay-down in the rain, (2) knocked off the center stand when my wife backed into it with the car. Resilient scooter and marriage. Love them both dings and all.

Not telling!
That why I have car door molding on the side of my scooter:

So the husband can't tell if I've dropped it, yet again
(Of course if I crash it instead of dropping it, that's a different story)

I've never dropped my Vespa... had it knocked out from under me from behind while I was waiting at a light by a distracted clown in an SUV, but I wouldn't count that as dropping it.

Never dropped either of the other two bikes I've owned either. Came close a couple of times, but saved it.

Just once , when I decided to go riding with Mario
and the South Bay scooter club back in August 5th
2005. I hit some gravel then a parked car and woke
up in the middle of Pacific Coast Highway in Torrance.
Four ribs broken. Now I pay more attention to the road
surface just ahead of me. I've been riding since 2001
and have not had a car hit me yet, I keep an eye on
the cars all around me. Cars have come into my lane
and thats when I hit my Magnam 136db horn to put
them back into their lane. You need to be very careful
on any freeway, that;s when the flag saves my Arss.

So I haven't dropped one of mine yet, I know as I have been told it's not if but when. I do have a bit of a funny story about a drop though.

When we first opened the store my then 13 year old Son was "assisting" with rolling the bikes up. I told him "just the plastic bikes Son, no Vespa's".
I look out the showroom and he has this 06 LX150 in the funky blue color, pulling it down from the right side, and bam, it hits the ground.
He looks around to see if anyone noticed (I did lmao) but he didn't think so so he then proceeds to FALL ON THE SCOOTER long after it laid on the ground and scream "OW, HELP, OW, HELP ME".

I was like wtf do I do with that, we laugh our asses off about it to this day.

4 scoots, 1 M/C, always managed to keep the shiny side up.
This posting will surely screw that up big time.

Once! Thanks for asking. I was stopped in the road and was photoing
an old house. I felt the bike start to lean and due to previous expierience with motercycles and preocupation with photography, grabed the tank with my thighs. Ohooo... forgot, no tank. Minor ding. All good.

I worry about deep left hand turns at speed though. I have been high sided
by a center stand before. Happens quick when it happens.
I don't worry really. I'm just aware of this now.

One gentle lay down. Placed the PX on the center stand facing down slope on a very slight grade to get something out of the topbox. Placed some forward pressure on the topbox to release the lock, and the scoot began to move forward and off the center stand. The end result was a one man "Three Stooges Comedy" as I tried to stop the scooter's forward movement, keep it upright and move forward to grip something to gain control. Was not able to keep it upright, but was able to lay it down gently, with not one scratch. Ardy said it was the most hilarious thing she'd ever seen me do.

Had just gotten my GTS and the wife and I were at the Columbus Rally. During the ride we stopped to wait for some fokes who got delayed at a Stoplight. Being out in the country and having to pee really bad I pulled over in the grass near some trees to relieve myself. Put the bike up on the centerstand in the grass and while completing my task I hear this thump. Out of the bushes I go and there laying down like a deer thats been shot is my baby still running. i pulled her back up on the stand and to my surprise no damage except for crashbar which just got moved a bit. By all means buy the Crashbars

I haven't dropped any of mine... yet. I know it will happen eventually. *shrug*

Now my customers are a different story. So far only one of my Vespas hasn't been dropped/crashed. My MP3's been dropped 3 or 4 times so far. Never moving though so just minor scratches on the fenders, exhaust cover, center stand, mirror ends and brake levers... *sigh*

At least that's all easy to replace.

I've had a few motorcycles fall over in the past though... once my center stand snapped after I'd walked away and I have laid my bike down once. Also have had my bikes knocked over by people parking...
