Actually mine came with Pirelli's as OEM. My point was that 140/60-14 is the stock tire size on the 250 w/14" wheels. (I believe 140/70-14 is the stock size on the 400/500s)

At least the Shinko did better than the Diablo (6,000-miles -- kaputt)!
Got two brand-new Diablo's waiting to be installed -- no probs! 8)

I tend to throw tyres before they get so worn out...
However i have almost 6.000kms with my city grips and they feel new.

Piaggio stopped using the Pirelli's and Michelin Pilot sports end of 2008 on all mp3's,
they switched to Michelin Golds in januari 2009
Michelin stopped the production of the Gold end 2009 and replaced them with the City Grips
tehn Piaggio started to use the City's on the 400/500 and and the Maxxis on the 250/300 because the MAxxis are a lots cheaper then the City

half 2010 piaggio started to use the Pirelli's GTS but only on the Sports in Europe

My Mp3 came with a set of Maxxis. Crappy tires, not steady at all. Bad in cornering (no trust when leaning), ban in braking (always blocking). Even when you were accelerating you could some times feel the loss of traction in the rear wheel..

I kept them for 6500km (if i remember well) and I changed them for a set of city grip. TERRIBLE difference. Good, well handling tire. Not to be compared at all with the Maxxis.

I wonder why Piaggio chose to install those terrible and dangerous tires in such an expensive scooter that is promoting safety.

When the bean-counters have too much power over the engineers and designers, this is the type of problem you will run into.
After all, no matter how technically superior the engine, suspension, chassis, electronics of the scooter are, the only ways through which all of the above is transmitted to, or communicated back from the pavement are the tires.
There's no one good reason to skimp on tires.
Never skimp on tires.

I totally agree with you. Never skimp on tires and brakes.

Super-sized it at the dealer (sorry no install pics)! After 200+ miles, very happy with it. Rides lower (2-mm), more stable, better ergo, massive grip, accelerates eagerly, and swallows most bumps and potholes with great ease and comfort. Love this new radial tire of mine! What a nice-looking tire, too. Gitcha one!

GrowVerde, that very first Diablo, lasted just over 6,000-very-good-miles, and thanks (it is very sexy, indeed).

OAD, you probably don't recall that the dealer didn't balance the first Diablo because they didn't have the cones; and yet they told me they DID balanced it?!

Those weights were for the stock tire (MGS 140/70-14)! Now, I take my bidness elsewhere.

Interesting to see that that Italian tyre is made in Germany.

IIRC Metzeler makes Pirelli moto tyres.
