I would dearly like to get a vintage scooter and am saving my pennies to do so.

Can you guys suggest a vintage scooter - any brand - 125cc is the maximum permitted in the BVI, which is able to take steep hills and rough roads? Parts must be available in the US or Canada. I am patient and can wait for parts ... but need a good source to assist in locating any parts that may be required from time to time.

P125

This has a 150 cc in it, but would be registered as a 125

Or just get a regular P125.

Funny: as I was falling asleep last night I wondered how hard it would be to brand a 125 as a 50 so my girl could park it on the sidewalks down town without worrying about getting tickets.

Unfortunately, our customs inspectors are very good at their jobs and they check the actual engines. A young fellow who tried to scam customs last week lost his (souped up) Gilera when trying to pass it through Customs as a 125cc. Customs has impounded it and he will never see it again. It will likely be sold in the USVI.

I have been considering the P's ... and am also in love with some of the old Lambrettas ... and others. However, I'm looking for something that is a little better suited to our lousy roads than my LX ... for those days after a torrential rain has messed everything up and it's muddy around here. So larger wheels might be in order.

Any ideas?

I had a DMV clerk once (last year) who didn't ask how many CC's my Chetak had so I received Moped plates for it. I never corrected the error and sold it with the moped plates. So you could go to the little hole in the wall DMV place in Robbinsdale and get the same chick...

Errrr ... that might be a little tricky since I live in the British Virgin Islands!

P125
the shitty-er the better.
parts are cheap and widely availible, easy to work on, and will take a beating.

then get a DR180 kit for it, cosa clutch, bigger carb and a sito and go terrorize the locals.

forget the lambretta.

the only vintage stuff with big wheels are mopeds, tuff to get parts for or motorcycles.

best,
-greasy

Vespa Sprint Veloce? Great looks, reliable and decent performance (45mph+ after a bit of a run-up ) even with a 125 head fitted and a tub of lard like me sat on it. Hills no problem. Very good parts availability, too.

From my experience the Robbinsdale and Golden Valley offices will issue a title for ANYTHING if you give them a grandpa's shed at the farm type story

If you desire performance, a T5 is the way to go, its a 125 and has the BHP of a P200....downside is that they are expensive ($3k+).

Otherwise, I would look for a Primavera, ET3, ETS, or PK125, all being small frames. They are a bit peppier than a P125 since they weigh less. parts are easy to get for them too. You can pick one up stateside for $1500 in pretty decent condition. If you know a decent scooter mechanic, or are inclined in the mechanical arts, then its also easy to pick up a 50 Special and turn it into a 125...

Thanks for the suggestions guys. What are the odds of finding a PK125 Automatica? Am I dreaming or is this a real possibility? It was Vespa's first automatic transmission scoot and they were only built from 1983 to 86. I'm guessing there weren't a lot of them built?
