I'm looking to start carrying a tool kit on my P200 but am not sure what I should use/account for (beyond the obvious).

Anyone have any recommendations or ideas (specific tools likely more useful than others)?

Any good compact kits available that trusted vintage enthusiasts would recommend?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

This is all you need.
It will get you through most scooter rallys.

well.. You shoulda had one all along!..

Anyway, Mine consists of :

1. wrenches 8mm to 13mm
2. Vespa's sparkplug removal tool
3. Screwdriver and Philips
4. A set of inner cables
5. small 1/4" drive ratchet
6. small set of sockets from 6mm to 14mm
7. a spark plug

If I think of more ill chime in again. I purchased a roll bag for the tools
and I keep it under my seat.

Oh...are you asking about tools to carry daily?
My bag contains everything needed to feild strip and fix a bike, including 20 feet of copper wire- multimeter - CDI - bailing wire - zap straps - jets - bulbs - tape and on and on....

think about what you might have to do on the road:
Change cable - 6mm(sometimes 7mm),8mm wrench, cable, 4th hand tool if your cool.
Change spark plug - plug wrench, plug
Change tire - 12mm(sometimes 13mm) socket
Change bulbs - phillips and flathead screwdriver, bulbs
Fuck with carb - phillips and flathead screwdriver, 10mm? socket..cant remember the sizes 10 and 12mm i think.
It depends on how much you feel like doing on the side o the road.

Goin to scabby 2 years ago i had a proper heat sieze just past newcastle and used the good old carole nash recovery to get me to scabby. The guy gave me his mobile number and said that if i couldnt get the scoot fixed, his company would give us a lift home and change the collection details on the insurance form!!!!!!!

Tho i ended up spendin 3.5 hrs on the saturday afternoon sanding out te rings from my piston, ended up having to use 90 wet and dry!

A wise man once said to me (well when I say wise, he was a bit drunk at the time but anyway you know what I mean )

in life, you only need two tools - WD-40 and Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move but should, use the WD-40.
If it should't move and does, use the duct tape.

Amen

add to that 5 & 6 mm allen keys, pliers (or small vice grips). I bolded cables above. A clutch, and shifter inner costs $6, cheap insurance. been at a couple rallys where I lost a cable in the middle of a ride...thats the only time they fail, when you are doing something fun.

The small vice grips came in handy once when the pinch bolt for my clutch cable mysteriously dissappeared. the vice grips got me home with a fully functioning clutch.

also, a small note on cable innners, I have used LML, Prima, and Bajaj cable inners on my original P200 outers, the only one I had a problem with was a Prima inner on the front brake, it was slightly too big to fit the outer.

Yes, on the scooter.

Also, thanks to everyone for the tips/help.

I don't already have this step covered because I've been driving very sporadically with my recently purchased shifter over the wintery months, and for sort distances. I'm trying to prepare and be ready in time for the nice weather though.

I was told on scoot.net there was something about the essentials, or carry-on tool kit building, but I can't seem to find it though, even on their Wiki entry. Anyone know of a good website that would cover this also? I want to try and get all the input I can find.
